Setting Reminders With Slack Bot

Posted on June 2, 2020 by Mona Leave a Comment

Many people struggle to keep up with their daily to-do list simply because they don’t have a reminder in place to keep them in check and give them a good visual of what needs to be done. When one isn’t organized, their whole day could be messed up. They can find it difficult to accomplish what they are meant to do for the day or for a particular period.

It’s normal for us as humans to forget one thing or the other and most times, some things will escape your mind, especially on a particularly busy day. This is a problem many people are struggling with, but setting up a reminder system can go a long way in fixing the problem! Additionally, it’s quite unfortunate that many people do in fact set reminders but they don’t follow them.

It’s just not enough for you to set reminders, and following these reminders and utilizing them to their fullest is the most important thing. When you set daily reminders, it will help you increase your productivity in your workplace.

The Slack App

Slack is communication app that allows staff members to send or share files like documents, photos, videos, PDFs, and others with each other. The individual chats and group messages on Slack are referred to as channels. Channels make it easy for staff to work on projects together and thus helps to reduce the turnaround time for the completion of various tasks.

Sometimes, you might forget to work on a document that has been sent to you. In this situation, it would be extremely helpful to have a reminder set to avoid disappointing your team members. You can do this using the Slack App on the web, iPhone, or iPad. So, how do you set up a reminder on Slack Bot?

After you have created and signed in into your Slack account, you will then have access to the ‘slackbot’. You can find this in your workspace area, and it’s function is to teach you know how to use the Slack App to its fullest, including knowing how to set reminders. Slack has the ability to continually remind you of your various events and responsibilities throughout the day. This means that you can set as many reminders as you want per day, with no limit.

How to Set a Personal Reminder

To set a personal reminder, you have to open the sidebar and then click on your name under direct messages. A new window will open, and then you should click on the “JOT SOMETHING DOWN” area located at the bottom of the window. You should then type your reminder using this format:

/remind me / (what) (when).

E.g if you want to remind yourself to sign a document at 9:55 am, you will type it like this:

/remind me ‘’sign a document’’ at 9:55 am.

After typing your reminder in this format, click on the send button and your reminder is now set. You can also send a reminder for another user by writing the reminder in this format:

/remind @username / (what) (when).

After your reminder has been set, Slack Bot will ask you to either view or delete your reminder. You can then click view and after that, click complete. At the chosen day and time, you will be reminded about what you are supposed to do according to the set reminder.

Now you know how to successfully set reminders using Slack Bot! You can set as many reminders as you want using this handy little tool. Unlike co-workers who struggle daily to keep up with their schedule, it can help you increase your efficiency in your workplace.
