If you wanted to game on the go, you once needed to have a handheld console. With the advent of the smartphone and app stores, however, games have become more and more popular on your phones, almost entirely replacing handheld consoles.
Gaming on your phone is great because you already have one on you almost all the time, so you don’t have to carry around something else. It’s also more varied than handheld console gaming as it is much easier to publish a game to the main app stores than it is to release a console game.
While you can game on most phones, to get the best experience, you want to get a phone designed for gaming. These tend to offer features such as high-refresh-rate screens, shoulder buttons, large batteries, and high-performance processors. Generally to keep costs down and to help to manage temperatures, sacrifices are made in other areas, such as camera quality, expandability, and build density.
To help you pick a good gaming phone we’ve drawn up a list of the best gaming phones in 2021.
