We all know that sitting down for hours each day isn’t ideal. Standing desks are a good alternative, particularly when they are combined with, for example, an under-desk treadmill. But, even without that additional gadget, a standing desk can have awesome benefits for your health.
If you’re not yet sure if a standing desk is right for you, or if you are looking for an affordable option for another reason, we’ve got you covered – we compiled a list of solid standing desks to take your work and computer use to a whole new level!
- 1 inch/second movement speed
- Less than 50 dB noise level
- Up to 154lbs weight capacity
- 30 inches deep x 48 inches wide x 28 inches high
- 1 inch desktop plate
- 28 inches to 47.6 inches height adjustment range
For a smaller budget, the Flexispot EN1 Electric is about as good as they come. Compared to manually adjustable standing desks, where you have to go out of your way to move the desk up and down during the day, the convenience of an electric desk makes a huge difference – and this model is one of the most affordable ones out there. It has lots of convenience features, including buttons that let you save certain heights according to your exact preferences, as well as a USB port for quickly charging your phone or peripherals right on your desk.
The desk is available in different surface sizes, between 55×28 and 42×24 inches, with the 48×30 being the standard size. The table is available in a variety of colour and finish combinations, making sure your desk fits into your space, no matter what sort of style you would like to go for. This model is quick to assemble and easy to build for even one person, making it a great starter model for anyone!
- Anti-collision sensor bounces if it collides with anything
- Power-failure self-locking mechanism
- Up to 260lbs weight capacity
- 23.62 inches deep x 47.24 inches wide x 29.53 inches high
- 29.53 inches – 49.61inches lifting range
- Quiet lifting mechanism
This standing desk has a good amount of safety features. Especially for parents of young kids or pet owners, the anti-collision feature can be a great asset. If the desk bumps against anything on the way up or down, it stops its trip and ‘bounces’ back to a safe height to prevent injuries or even property damage. It also has a self-lock mechanism that means that the desk won’t default to its lowest setting during power failures or accidental unplugs.
The desk has a fairly standard control panel with adjustable presets that allow you to pick your preferred sitting and standing heights. You can save up to 3 settings. The tabletop (though not the electrics of the desk) is waterproof and can easily be wiped clean with a damp cloth. The overall weight of the desk, of just over 71 inches is on the lower side for this type of desk, making it a good choice for just about any office.
- Storage drawer
- USB ports for charging devices
- Unique design
- 29.5 inches – 49.2 inches height adjustment range
- 23.6 inches deep x 47.6 inches wide x 29.5 inches high
- 99lbs weight capacity
This desk is one of the more expensive models on this list, but it is more than worth the price tag, especially given its unique appearance. A stark contrast to the usual single plate design most standing desks have, the Theodore doesn’t just look like a ‘normal’ desk, it also offers something almost no standing desks have – a storage drawer! While the drawer is fairly small, it does offer an opportunity to keep the desk more clutter-free than other models allow.
The trade-off is the very low weight capacity the desk offers – it’s not ideal for multi-monitor setups or for storing things like stacks of books and similar things. That said, the easy-to-access control buttons and multiple USB-charging ports do a great job of making up for that. While this desk won’t be ideal for every user, it’s a solid choice for just about any office, in particular for users that don’t want to sacrifice style when getting a new standing desk.
- Available in multiple colour combinations, with lots of add-ons and optional extras
- Particleboard desk plate
- Under-desk cable storage solution
- Up to 220lbs weight capacity
- 26 inches – 33.5 inches adjustable height range
- 47.25 inches long x 31.5 inches deep x 26 inches high
This desk is pretty much the cheapest standing desk you can get your hands on. For that, it lacks an important feature – the electric adjustment that others have. If you regularly want to switch between a standing and sitting desk, the Bekant might not be your best option, but if you are happy to keep it at the same height permanently, it’s a great choice. The height is adjusted with two under desk screws, so you would need to completely empty the desk for every adjustment as you would otherwise risk injury or property damage.
That said, if you are looking for a cheap way to test how you feel about standing up while working, the Bekant is a great choice as it’s extremely cheap and yet a high enough quality to last for years. Additionally, the under-desk cable management net allows you to route (almost) as many cables as you could think of through it, containing even the most severe of cable knots that would otherwise sit behind your desk and gather dust.
