How to Remove Duplicate Contacts on Any Android Device

How to Remove Duplicate Contacts on Any Android Device

By Judy Sanhz 1 Comment

Removing duplicate contacts from your Android device one by one can take forever. Even if it doesn’t, I’m sure you have better things to do than to use your free time to erase them. The good news is that there are various apps you can try to get the job done.

There is even a method to merge duplicate Android contacts you can try that’s sitting in your device’s settings. The only way out isn’t to erase those contacts; you can always merge them if you have the same contact with two different numbers.

How to Merge Duplicate Contacts Without an App (Nougat)

If you don’t want to use a third-party app to remove duplicate contacts, the only thing you can do is merge the ones you have. You can do this by opening your contacts app and tapping on the three vertical dots at the top right of your display.

Select the Settings options and the third option down will be the Merge duplicate contacts option. The contacts app should now show you all the duplicates you have and the Merge All option as well. Tap on that option and see how your duplicate contacts disappear.

Duplicate Contacts Remover

If you are willing to use an app, an app that will get the job done is called Duplicate Contacts Remover. The app is free and easy to use, just in case you’re not very tech-savvy. Before you start using the app, it’s going to ask for some permission such as permission to access your contacts.

Once the permissions part is out of the way, you’ll be taken to the app’s main page. It’s here where the app will show you all the duplicate contacts automatically. The duplicate will be selected so the only thing you have to do it tap on the trash icon to erase them.

Simpler Merge Duplicates

A more feature-rich app you can use to get rid of your duplicates is Simpler Merge Duplicates. It not only shows you if you have any duplicate contacts, but it will also show you other useful information.

For example, it will show you duplicate phones, duplicate Emails, similar names, contacts with no names, no phone or both, and even the contacts that you hardly use. At the top, you’ll see four tabs and the second one (two arrows as one) will show you all the contacts that the app can merge.

Use Google Contacts

A more comfortable way of eliminating your duplicates is from your computer by using Google Contacts. First, you’ll need to sign into your account and as soon as you’re in you’ll see a list of all your contacts.

To the left (right below frequently contacted), you’ll see the Duplicates option. There, you’ll be able to see all your duplicates and quickly erase them by clicking on the merge option at the bottom right of the duplicate contact.

Conclusion

Duplicate contacts can be annoying since they only clutter up your contacts list and take up space. There are various apps you can try, but I just mentioned two you can try. How do you deal with your duplicate contacts? Leave a comment and share your methods with us.
