Opera VPN is a free VPN product built into, and only available on the Opera web browser. Unfortunately, even for a free service Opera VPN offers a poor level of support, with no help topics specific to their VPN service. If you’re struggling with Opera VPN these quick fixes may help you out in a pinch.
Turn it Off and On Again
This simple solution can often work for many problems, try just turning the VPN off then back on by clicking the VPN icon on the left of the search bar, then clicking the slider from “On” to “Off” and back again.

Tip: If restarting the VPN doesn’t help, try restarting the whole browser.
Change Server Location
If restarting the VPN or the browser doesn’t fix things, the issue may be with the VPN server or region you’re connected to. Try changing the region by clicking the VPN icon on the left of the search bar and selecting a new region from the drop-down box.
If this doesn’t help, try completely re-enabling the VPN in the settings. To open Opera’s settings to the right place, click on the cogwheel icon in the sidebar on the left, then click “Advanced” and select “Features” from the dropdown list. Alternatively, you can browse to opera://settings/VPN (only works in the opera browser). From here you can toggle the entire VPN functionality off and on again by clicking the “Enable VPN” slider twice.

Check for Updates
It’s possible that the service isn’t working because you’re using an outdated version of the browser. You can check for and download updates by clicking the Opera icon in the top left corner of the window, then selecting “Update & Recovery…”. Simply opening this page will cause your browser to start checking for updates. If there is an update, let it download and then restart your browser when prompted.
Disable Extensions
Browser extensions can occasionally cause issues. Try disabling them to rule them out as a potential cause of your problems. To see your list of installed browser extensions, click the Opera icon in the top-left corner, highlight “Extensions”, then click on “Extensions” in the second level of the menu. Alternatively, you can press the keyboard shortcut “Control+Shift+E” to open the page directly. In the extension list, disable all of your extensions by toggling the sliders in the bottom-right of each extension tile.

Reset the browser
If none of these options work a final possible fix is to reset Opera. You can do so, by opening the Update and Recovery page via the Opera icon in the top left corner then clicking “Recover…” when on the correct page. If you want to keep your bookmarks, history and saved passwords select “Keep my data and only reset Opera settings.”, otherwise, if you want to perform a full reset, select “Reset my data and Opera settings.” and click “Recover”.

Tip: After resetting your browser, configuring your preferences again can be a pain. It may be worth trying to use a different browser, especially if the issue is only with one site rather than the whole VPN or browser not working.
