NordVPN can help you get that extra protection with their trustworthy VPN service. But, no service is perfect, and there will come a time when you won’t be able to connect to NordVPN’s servers.
Sometimes the fix is easy and could be things you can do yourself without having to contact the company’s customer service. What are some necessary repairs you can try first?
Easy Fixes to Try First
If the first thing you’re trying to do is connect to NordVPN, but can’t, you can try to check your Internet connection. As steady as your Internet connection can be, it’s not perfect, and your Internet service provider could be experiencing problems.
Try another server. Maybe the server you’re trying to connect to is saturated and can’t take on any more users. If you still can’t connect, try connecting to the same server from another device. If you do connect, then it’s your device, not NordVPN, that has the issue.
Other basic fixes you can try are:
- Logging out and then back into your account
- Uninstall the app and then re-install it
- Turn off your antivirus/firewall for just a moment to see if it’s the cause.
- Check to see if your account is active.
Reset NordVPN App
Unless you’ve explored every inch of the app, you may not know that it has a Run Diagnostics Tool. When you open the NordVPN window that shows you what country you’re connected to, click on the cogwheel to access settings.
On the left, click on Advanced, followed by the Run Diagnostics Tool. In the new window, click on the Reset app button.
Try to see if you can now connect to the app’s servers.
Disable/Enable NordVPN Network Adapter
To reboot NordVPN network adapter go to:
- Control Panel
- Network and Internet
- Network and Sharing Center
- Change adapter settings
- Right-click on the NordVPN Windows adapter
- Click on Disable

Use Windows PowerShell to Reset Network Settings
If you’re comfortable using the Windows PowerShell, you can reset the network settings by:
- Right-clicking on the Windows start menu
- Choose to run Windows Powershell as administrator
Once PowerShell is open, enter the following commands. You may see a message telling you that you need to reboot your computer, but only do so after you have entered all of the following commands:
Note: Remember to press enter after every command
- ip config /release
- ipconfig / flushdns
- ipconfig /renew
- netsh winsock reset
- netsh interface ipv4reset
- netsh interface ipv6 reset
- netsh winsock reset catalog
- netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log
- netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log
Once you’ve entered all of the commands, you can go ahead and restart your computer.
