iPhone X (64GB) Review

Posted on June 21, 2019 by Mona Leave a Comment

Arguably one of the most trusted mobile phone manufacturing companies in the world, Apple is still in the business of raising the bar with every product released. The superior design, sleek appearance and classy nature of their products are what sets them apart from the others.

Right from the release of its first mobile phone, Apple has received recognition and support from people around the globe. The recently launched iPhone X by Apple has been making waves in the mobile phone market, selling at an incredibly high rate.

If you are in the market for a new phone, this review of the iPhone X can help set you on the path to discovering if this is the perfect pick for you.

Pros & Cons of Using Apple Products

If you are considering any of the Apple products that are on the market today, it is important to consider the whole Apple ecosystem and the advantages and drawbacks that come with it. Even if you own a single product, you will be pressured to use Apple-exclusive features and services.

While for some this may be a dealbreaker, others will find it beneficial to have such a well-rounded system.

Pros

– Exquisite design
– Seamless hardware and software compatibility
– Native apps and features
– Excellent customer support

Cons

– Not moddable
– Lacking third-party product support
– Generally expensive

If you want to buy an iPhone X, you can do so without a contract by purchasing it from Amazon. It will still have all of the features and integration with Apple, but you will not be bound to a contract with any carrier.

Look and Design

The iPhone X is as big as the iPhone 8 but smaller than the iPhone 8 Plus and is also heavier. For years Apple has been recycling a similar design repeatedly, but it ends now with the iPhone X. Apple made a bold move by retiring the iconic and historic Home key as they introduced the bezel-less screen. Touch ID has also been eliminated. The X has also gained an AMOLED screen for a better and captivating iPhone experience and has an all-glass back creating a great feeling of superior phone performance in your hands.

Performance

Introducing the new Apple custom silicon chip called the A11 Bionic. Apple has upgraded from a quad-core processor to one with six cores that can run simultaneously, with a first-ever GPU designed by Apple; previous ones were designed by PowerVR. The new A11 chip operates with the 10nm processor which makes it relatively smaller, stronger, and more efficient compared to the iPhone 8. The A11 is comprised of 3 cores which promise up to 30% faster performance speed when compared to the A10 fusion.

Software, Facial Recognition, and Hardware

The iPhone X is running on iOS 11. With the elimination of the Home key, this iOS was wholly made for the iPhone X rolling in new gestures and features. It comes with new usability features, refined design, and advanced machine learning.

The removal of the home button also came with the eviction of the Touch ID, which gave room for something else, and that’s the facial recognition. You don’t need to start worrying about your security when it comes to the iPhone X and say goodbye to having to memorize your passcodes.

The iPhone X uses facial recognition which strengthens its security. It is now almost impossible for your phone to get hacked, as the iPhone X can only memorize one face. The estimated time to set up facial recognition is about a minute and then it works relatively quickly, meaning you can unlock your phone in a matter of seconds.

The facial recognition feature is impressive as it will still recognize your face even if you are wearing a hat or sunglasses.

Camera Features

The iPhone X has an identical camera setup to the iPhone 8 plus; a dual-12MP camera setup. Added to it is a scratch-resistant sapphire glass to keep it undamaged. The iPhone X retains the new image processor and noise reduction algorithm, assisted by the A11 chip.

It is fully equipped for real-time image and motion analysis. For the video capabilities, there are 4k at 60fps and 1080p at 240fps modes for more realistic videos.

The daylight images taken with the iPhone X are absolutely stunning. Very realistic, low-noise, outstanding contrast and pinpoint autofocus. The HDR mode just adds to the realistic capturing of images and bringing your photos to life.

Display

The iPhone X most awaited feature is without a doubt the 5.8” AMOLED screen coupled with HDR video support and 1125 by 2436px resolution, giving it a pixel density of 458ppi. When the AMOLED is placed under a microscope, a Diamond PenTile matrix is revealed.

Battery Life

The iPhone X comes with a non-removable Li-Po 2,716 mAh battery which is equal to the iPhone 8 Plus. It also comes with a low power mode that is enabled manually that will extend your iPhone X battery life once it drops below the 20% mark.

The iPhone X comes out of the box with a slow 5V/1A wall charger that only recharges a dead battery to about 20% in a 30-min charging time frame. Nevertheless, the iPhone X supports fast charging through USB-C power delivery if you have an appropriate cable and use a compatible charger. With these, you can get up to about 45-50% of battery life in a 30-min charging time frame. Wireless charging is also available.

The iPhone X boasts an endurance rating of up to 74 hours off a single full charge and can last for about 19 hours of 3G talk time.  When it comes to surfing the web, it lasts for about 9 hours and you can enjoy video playback for up to 12 hours. The iPhone X video playback time dropped by about 3 hours when compared to that of the iPhone 8 Plus, meaning that the AMOLED screen of the iPhone X draws more power than the LCD unit in the iPhone 8 Plus.

Final Verdict

One thing that may scare you away from this beauty is the price. If you are planning to get it right out of the box, you should keep in mind that you are going to pay close to $1000. However, it is one of the best phones to grace the current mobile phone market.

With the dawn of a new iPhone generation starting with the iPhone X, there are a lot of improvements that have been made. You couldn’t ask for more features in a smartphone. It’s premium design and fast processing speed among many other features make the iPhone X a deal breaker and a very desirable smartphone to get your hands on.
