Installing TWRP on Xiaomi Mi A3

By Mona Leave a Comment

Xiaomi Mi A3 is a popular choice, when it comes to mid-range Android phones. This is the third model of the Android One series after Xiaomi Mi A1 and Xiaomi Mi A2 to be launched by Google. The phone is apt for users who want to have a Stock Android type experience at an affordable price. New mods are being developed for the Mi A3 model by third-party developers. However, the official TWRP support for the Xiaomi Mi A3 has recently come out.

Installing TWRP software on Xiaomi Mi A3

Requirements to be met

Before installing the TWRP software on the smartphone, there are some requirements that have to be met. The user will have to download USB drivers. Fastboot driver and ADB drivers should be downloaded and installed on the computer. The phone must have more than 60% charge before installation. To secure important data present on the phone, transfer it to an external drive. Ensure that the bootloader of the phone has been unlocked. Download utility tools such as SuperSu or Magisk manager to hide root. Finally, download and keep the TWRP software ready.

Installation procedure for the TWRP

It is important to note that the bootloader has to be unlocked before proceeding with the installation. First, head to the Setting and click About Phone. Once here, tap on the MIUI version 7 times to enable Developer Mode. Go to the Developer Option under Settings and toggle USB debugging to enable USB debugging.

Next, connect the Mi A3 to a computer with the help of a USB cable. Subsequently, download the TWRP Recovery IMG from the previous section and put it in the extracted Fastboot tools and ADB tools folder. Make sure that a copy of this file has been pasted in the phone’s storage. Press Shift + Right Click in Fastboot and ADB tools folder to open Command Prompt.

Type and execute the command “adb reboot bootloader” so that the smartphone can be rebooted. After rebooting the phone, execute the next command “fastboot boot twrp.img” to flash the TWRP on the Xiaomi Mi A3 temporarily. After the boot, once in the TWRP, go to Advanced and select the Install Recovery Ramdisk option and then finally select Browse the TWRP image. When the TWRP image has been installed, navigate to Advanced once again and select the Fix Recovery Bootloop option.

This is an important step done to avoid boot loops. Finally, the user can start reaping the benefits of the TWRP custom recovery after the smartphone has been rebooted. This way the TWRP is successfully installed on the Xiaomi Mi A3.

Rooting the Phone

The Xiaomi Mi A3 can be rooted after the TWRP custom recovery has been installed. Various rooting software such as SuperSU, Kingo Root, or One Click Root can be used. One could either root through the patched boot method or flash the Magisk manager on the phone to get the same results.

The Magisk manager file has to be downloaded on the Mi A3. Next, backup Stock ROM with the help of TWRP and boot into recovery mode. After this, locate the magisk.zip file in downloads and click on install so that the flash is confirmed. The smartphone can be rebooted from the TWRP manager after some time. Finally, the Xiaomi Mi A3 is successfully rooted with the Magisk manager.

This lets the users tweak the performance of their phones in numerous ways such as increasing the speed of the phone and efficiency of the battery. They can also install their desired MODs. The rooted phone can also block ads in any given app.

Now you can begin enjoying your Xiaomi MiA3 with the TWRP installed correctly.
