How to Use Bit Warden to Send Encrypted Text or Files

Posted on May 27, 2021 by Judy Sanhz Leave a Comment

Sending encrypted messages is a must when you’re dealing with sensitive information. It’s important to choose a messaging service with this option. Otherwise, you might run the risk of your messages being intercepted. But, which one to choose?

Before choosing your password manager, you may have done some research to see which one to go with. Bitwarden may have come upon the list. But besides keeping your passwords safe, Bitwarden can also help you send those encrypted messages. Here’s how.

Send Encrypted Messages with Bitwarden – Android

If you don’t have Bitwarden installed on your device, please go to Google Play and install it. Once you’ve created your account and your on the app’s main page, you’ll find four different options at the bottom: My Vault, Send, Generator, and Settings.

Tap on the Send option, and once you’re in that section, tap on the plus sign to the right. You’ll need to fill out information such as Name, File Type, Deletion date, Expiration date, Maximum access count, New password, and Notes. You’ll also see options to hide your email from the recipients and disable this send so that no one can access it.

If you’re a free user, you’ll experience some restrictions such as not sending files, only text. The messaging service will send your messages with encryption of end-to-end AES-256. You also don’t have to worry about the other person having Bitwarden on their device since it’s unnecessary to receive the encrypted messages.

  • Name
  • File type
  • When accessing the Send, hide the text by default
  • Copy the link to share this Send to my Clipboard upon Save

If you click on the Option drop-down menu, you’ll see additional options such as:

  • Deletion date – Seven days, One hour, One day

Two days, three days. Seven days. 30 days, and custom. You’ll have a calendar and time card in the custom option to choose your specific time and date.

  • Expiration date – Same options as deletion date
  • Maximum Access count
  • Password
  • Notes
  • Hide my email address from recipients
  • Disable this Send so that no one can access it

Send Encrypted Messages on Bitwarden – iOS

The steps are also easy for iOS users for Bitwarden. Once you’re on the app’s main page, tap on the Send option at the bottom. At the top right, tap on the plus sign. You’ll see the same options as Android users that include:

  • File name
  • File type
  • When accessing the Send, hide the text by default
  • Share this Send upon save
  • Deletion Date
  • Expiration date
  • Maximum access count
  • New Password
  • Notes
  • Hide my email address from the recipient
