When a site asks you for something like your location, you always have the option of saying no. But, being asked every single time you access the site can get annoying. Having to see that pop-up every time you visit a site can test your patience.
The good news is that there is a way to prevent browsers such as Opera and Firefox from asking you for your location. The steps are beginner-friendly, so you don’t have to worry about getting lost in a sea of instructions.
How to Disable Geo-Location in Firefox
To block sites from asking for your location in the future or denying your location to sites you’re currently visiting, you need to click on the three-lined menu, followed by the Settings options.
On the left pane, click on Privacy and Security and scroll to Permissions. Click on Settings on the Location option.
A new and big window will appear to list all the sites requesting your location. It’s up to you which ones you allow or deny your location. At the bottom, there’s an option, a box, for you to check if you want to prevent sites from asking for your location in the future.
How to Deny/Allow Location on Opera
If you’re an Opera user, allowing or denying your location is also an easy task. Click on the Red O at the top left and go to Settings, followed by site settings.
Click on Location, and you’ll see the option to be asked before accessing your location. You can choose to turn it on or off. In Site Settings, you’ll see your recent activity and the Permissions option. If you’ve blocked apps in the past or allowed them to have access to your location, you’ll see them listed as well.
You’ll see a trach icon to the right of each site if you want to erase it. If you click on the arrow pointing to the right, you can access all the permission for that page. Click on the dropdown menu for permission, and you can choose to block, allow, or be asked for your permission every time.
You’ll need to repeat this for all the sites whose location permissions you want to change. If you’re having a hard time finding a site, you can always use the search option for an easy find.
There are times when you have no choice but to give up your location if you want to use an app. But, there are times when it’s not mandatory and not giving your location makes you feel a little safer. So, for those times when you’re using Firefox or Opera, you know what you have to do to keep your location private. How comfortable do you feel about revealing your location?
