How to Stop Facebook from Announcing My Birthday

How to Stop Facebook from Announcing My Birthday

By Madalina Dinita 12 Comments

When you create your Facebook account, you’re prompted to enter your birthday. The platform adds this piece of information to your profile.

Your friends can then see when it’s your birthday and even get notified when you’re adding another year to your life.

But if you don’t want Facebook to announce your birthday, here’s what you can do to hide this piece of information.

How to Hide Your Birthday On Facebook

  1. Launch Facebook and log in to your account if you haven’t already
  2. Select Edit public details
  3. Go to Edit your About info
  4. Scroll down to Basic infoedit basic info facebook
  5. Click or tap the Edit button
  6. Select the visibility settings icon
  7. Go to More optionsfacebook birthday more options
  8. Check the Only me option.facebook show birthday only to me

That’s it! When people visit your Facebook profile, they won’t see any information related to your birthday. Your friends won’t be notified when it’s your birthday either.

How to Block Birthday Notifications from Friends

If you don’t want to get any notifications about your friends’ birthdays, you can tweak your Facebook notification settings accordingly.

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Select Your Time on Facebookyour time on facebook
  3. Go to Control your notifications → See settingsfacebook control your notifications
  4. Go to Notifications settingsfacebook birthday notification settings
  5. Scroll to Birthdays and disable the birthday notifications.enable or disable facebook birthday notifications

So, if you don’t want to get any birthday notifications from Facebook, and you don’t want your friends to get notifications about your birthday either, follow the steps listed above.

Facebook will hide any birthday information on your profile, and you won’t get any notifications about your friends’ birthdays either.

That’s an excellent way to avoid your wall and inbox getting flooded with happy birthday messages.

On the other hand, if you tend to be really forgetful and need reminders for your closest friends’ birthdays, you may want to add that information directly to your calendar.

Facebook has changed the way this works slightly but your article helped me find the solution: Profile->Edit profile->Edit your about info.->Contact and Basic info.->Select the edit “Pencil” next to birthday-> Select “Only Me” for the day and year. ->Save.

It’s not on the facebook.com website, it took me forever to figure it out. Use the Facebook app on iPhone or Android phone, then you can do it.

I’m not seeing any of these links – Edit public details or Edit your About info. There is an “Edit Profile” link but then nothing there about birthday notifications.
Facebook often changes things or maybe you’re starting on a different page. Can you create a video?
