How to Start a Skype Voice and Video Call

How to Start a Skype Voice and Video Call

August 23, 2021 by Judy Sanhz Leave a Comment

There are various apps you can use to make a call, and Skype is one of them. It’s one of the most popular apps for calling your family and friends for free. Skype makes calling convenient since it’s available on all major platforms.

If you haven’t done so already, you’ll need to install the app on your device, whether it’s iPhone or Android. You can also get it on Mac and Windows as well.

How to Make a Call on Skype on Android

When you first set up Skype, it’s going to ask you for access to your contacts. It’s always more convenient to give the app access to them, but if you didn’t, you could still set that up by going to your contacts settings. To do that, tap on your profile picture at the top; tap on Settings, followed by Contacts. Don’t forget to toggle on the Sync your contacts option.

Desktop

If you’re using Skype on your desktop, to sync your contacts there, you’ll need to:

  • Click on your profile picture
  • Go to Settings
  • Click on Contacts
  • Toggle on Sync your contacts

If you think you’re missing a contact, you can add one by clicking on the New contact option. You can also use the search option and when you find their profile, click on the Add Contact option.

On Android, you only need to tap on the person icon at the bottom right.  When you have all the contacts you need, it’s time to make that first Skype call.

How to Call Someone on Skype

To call someone on Skype, you can either search for the contact you want to call and click on the phone icon at the top right, or click on the Call option to the left and search for the contact there. If the call is only going to happen once, you can also use the dial pad to enter the phone number manually.

If you’re on Android, the dialing pad will be hidden. Tap on the circle with the dots on it, and that’ll open up the dialing pad. If you didn’t notice that you ran out of credit, tap on the red button to get some.

How to Make a Video Call on Skype – Android – Windows

Making a video call is easy to make video calls regardless of whether you’re on your Windows computer or on your Android device. On the desktop client, click on the Calls option will show you to make a video or voice call. You can also click on these same options when you open a contact both on Android and Windows. If the contact you’re calling picks up, you can do things such as share your screen, open the chat, take screenshots, send hearts. Be careful that you’re not showing anything you would rather keep private when you share your screen.

If you’re on the Android Skype app, you can do things such as to enable subtitles, record a call, turn off incoming calls, add other users to the call, share your screen, and send a heart. If you don’t get together with a specific group of people often, creating a group chat might not be convenient. But if you do, creating one is the way to go. You can do this by clicking on the New Chat option, followed by the New Group Chat option.

On Android, tap on the pencil icon, followed by the New Group Chat option. After that, you’ll need to add an image, title, and participants to your new group.

Skype is a great software when it to calling to get together with family and friends. You can choose between a video and a voice call. Which one do you more often? Let me know in the comments below, and don’t forget to share the article with others on social media.
