How to See Wifi Passwords Windows 10

How to See Wifi Passwords Windows 10

Posted on September 2, 2021 by Judy Sanhz Leave a Comment

You need to connect another device to your WiFi connection, but you have no idea of your saved WiFi password. It’s completely faded out from your router, but the good news is that you have your computer connected, so there’s a way to get that password.

How to Find Your WiFi Password – Windows 10

To find the password for a specific WiFi network, you’re going to need to go to:

Network and sharing center Windows 10

  • Open network and Internet settings by clicking on the WiFi icon
  • Wifi
  • Network and sharing center
  • Choose the WiFi network

  • Wireless properties

  • Security tab
  • Show characters

Control Panel

If you had difficulty following the steps previously mentioned, you could also access the WiFi password through the control panel. Press the Windows and R keys, and when the window appears, type ncpa.cpl in it. Don’t forget to click OK.

The Network Connections window should now be open. Look for the WiFi network whose password you want to see and right-click on it. Choose the Status option.

PowerShell

If you’re more comfortable using PowerShell, you can find the WiFi password by right-clicking on the Windows menu and opening the PowerShell as an administrator. Once it’s open, type the following:

  • netsh wlan show profiles
  • Enter key
  • Your saved WiFi networks will be under User Profiles

Once you see the network name, type the following:

  • netsh wlan show profile “name=wifinamehere” key=clear

Once you’ve entered the command and pressed enter, you’ll see much information but look for the words Key Content. Replace where it says wifinamehere with the name of the network whose password you need. To the right of it, you should see the password for that network.

Conclusion

You get so used to your devices connecting to your WiFi automatically that you don’t worry about not forgetting your WiFi password. Thanks to the methods above, you can recover the password for any network you’ve connected to before. Still, if you’re using the PowerShell method, it’ll only work if you haven’t used the Forget option to erase a network’s details.
