You know how to send messages if you’re new to Slack, but how about scheduling those messages for later? This feature can really come in handy since you can remind your co-worker to send that report without having to be at your desktop or your phone.
How to Schedule Slack Messages for Later – Desktop Client
To schedule Slack messages for later, open the desktop client and the chat where you’ll be sending the message. Once it’s open, type your message and click on the dropdown menu to the right of the send icon.
Slack will have a default time but click on the Custom time option to choose your own time and date. You can even schedule the message for months in advance. To set the date, click on the dropdown menu to the right of the default date and click on a date. If you want to schedule the message for another month, click on the arrow pointing right at the top right.
To choose a time to send the message, click on the dropdown menu to the right of the default time and choose a time.
Once the message is scheduled, you can still do things such as:
- Edit the message
- Reschedule the message
- Send the message
- Cancel schedule and save to drafts
When you send the message, you’ll see an option to see all your scheduled option. But, there’s also an option for that on the left side of the window.
How to Schedule Slack Messages – Android
The steps for your Android device differ. Once you have the Slack app open, type your message in the chat it’s intended for, and when you’re done, long-press on the send icon.
If you’re not happy with the time option, tap on the Custom Time option. Tap on the dropdown menu for the date and time and set them. Once you’re done, tap on the Schedule Message button. You’ll now see a message on the chat that the message is scheduled.
On the app’s main age, you’ll see an option called Scheduled Messages, but only if you have a message scheduled; if not, the option won’t appear. This is where you’ll find all the scheduled messages. To erase a message, long-press on it and choose the delete message option in red. If you don’t want to erase it, you’ll see other options such as:
- Edit message
- Reschedule message
- Cancel and save to drafts
Scheduling messages on Slack can come in handy when you need to remind your team about something, for example, on Monday morning. You can relax and drink your coffee by setting it before, knowing the message will be sent. Do you think that this is a feature you’ll frequently be using?
