How To Optimize Gaming Performance in Windows 10

How To Optimize Gaming Performance in Windows 10

Posted on June 12, 2019 by Mona Leave a Comment

In the gamer’s world, Windows is considered one of the best platforms to use. While we will never cease of pointing one flaw or the other, it is the easiest to optimize gaming performance in Windows 10, and that is what every gamer is after in the end.

Windows 10 gets multiple updates each year, improving PC gaming with special software optimization. This article will help gamers who want to extract even more gaming performance from Windows 10.

Pros & Cons of Optimizing you PC for Gaming

Before your further rise in the tiers of PC Gaming Übermensch, you should consider if you are doing the best thing at the best time. Unlike many previous years, games are not the hardest thing a CPU or a GPU can do, so there is little in terms of bragging rights compared for rendering PCs.

Additionally, take into consideration which games you will be playing and if they are as hardware demanding for you to buy the latest model GPU, as 99% of even the AAA titles will not be.

Pros

– Higher Frame Rates
– Less Lag
– Easier on the Eyes
– Compatible with more peripherals

Cons

– A rising price tag
– Quick loss in value
– Higher power consumption
– Requires cooling solutions

Adjust the Visual Effects:

While playing games on Windows 10, its GUI continues running in the background, taking up extra computing power. Here are steps that can increase the visual effects of Windows 10, considering that issue.

  1. In Cortana search bar, search for “Performance” and then click “Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows.”
  2. After choosing the “Performance” option, a window will open. Select “Adjust for best performance” and hit the “Apply” button.
  3. At the same windows click on “Advanced” tab and make sure that the option “Adjust the best performance of:” is set to the “Program” and click “OK” to confirm.

Select a Better Plan for Power:

Windows computers come pre-configured with a default setting for balanced power, and this can affect your gaming performance. If you are using a desktop computer, then this issue will not be a concern as the “High Performance” power plan of your system negates the power saving setting. To enable a better power plan on your laptop, follow these steps:

  1. Hit “Win + X” shortcut key to go on an option “System and Security” located in a “Control Panel”.
  2. Click on the “Power” Option and select the option “High Performance”.

Overclock the Computer System’s CPU and GPU:

Before you apply this process, you must keep in mind that overclocking the CPU or GPU on your computer system can cause serious issues.

However, most of the hardcore gamers would prefer to overclock their PC’s CPUs and GPUs to get the best gaming performance possible. Games will become faster and smoother after applying it.

If you are a person who is good at coding, you can manually overclock a computer system. If you are not a coder, then you can use an overclocking software such as the AMD OverDrive Technology for the systems based on AMD or Intel Extreme Tuning Utility for the motherboards from Intel.  This software is helpful for the gamer in monitoring and overclocking a system to its full potential.

However, be aware that there are recommendations not to overclock your gaming laptop as the heat dissipation is not the same quality as a desktop computer. Overclocking your laptop means it can end up overheating and cause long term damage to it.

If budget is not an issue, you can just purchase the best GPU on the market today, which provides competition-level results without any need to overclock.

May your framerates be high, and your temperatures low!
