How to Fix YouTube Error 400 on Android

May 7, 2021 by Madalina Dinita 31 Comments

Did you know that 70 percent of YouTube users utilize Android devices to connect to the platform? In other words, mobile users are watching more YT videos than desktop users. But there’s an annoying error code that often pops up on YouTube’s homepage. We’re talking about error 400: “There was a problem with the servers“. Let’s see how you can fix this error on Android.

How Do I Fix YouTube Error 400 on Android?

Check Your Connection

Server connection errors indicate your connection is not stable. Disable your cellular or wireless connection and enable Airplane mode for one or two minutes. Restart your phone, re-enable your connection and launch YT again. Ideally, switch to a different connection and check if you notice any improvements.

Check Your Date and Time Settings

Server errors can also be caused by incorrect date and time settings. Go to Settings, select General management, and then tap Date and time. Enable Automatic date and time settings, launch YouTube again, and check if error 400 persists.

Force Stop YouTube and Clear the Cache

Make sure YouTube is the only app running on your Android device. Then, navigate to Settings, tap Apps, and select YouTube. Tap Storage, hit the Clear cache button, and check if this solution solved the problem. If the issue persists, hit the Clear data button as well.

Additionally, make sure you’re using the latest app version. Launch the Google Play Store app, search for YouTube, and hit the Update button. Check if there’s a newer Android version available, install it, restart your device and launch YouTube again.

Change DNS Settings

Some users solved this problem by manually changing their DNS settings. Navigate to Settings, tap Wi-Fi, and then long-press the network you’re connected to. Select Modify Network, go to IP settings, and use 1.1.1.1 as your primary DNS.

If the problem persists, uninstall and reinstall your YouTube app.

Conclusion

YouTube error 400 usually indicates your connection is unstable or you’re using incorrect date and time settings. Additionally, check for updates and ensure you’re running the latest YT app version on your Android device. As a last resort, reinstall the app.

I fixed this issue on my tablet by going to settings from the desktop, then apps tab from settings then you tube, next data tab, clear cache, then clear data, then do this for Google, Google play and I also did it for Google play Movies & TV. Next I opened all of those apps from settings opened the permissions tabs allowed all permissions. Then I restarted my tablet. Then reopened you tube and when the update with a space man tab showed on the screen clicked update which took me to Google play with an update you tube button, clicked it and it updated you tube. Whereas before I’d alway get the error code 400 message saying there was an error with the server. SO I’m guessing that by clearing the caches on all Google apps as well as any installed you tube apps, and clearing the data as well as allowing permissions was what finally let me update you tube and connect. You Tube needs to create a fix for this.

useless info that’s a waste of time and doesnt even address what the likely problem ( no longer supported version) . with 0 info on how to fix the main problem… this article amounts to: check your time. check your ip. update or uninstall/reinstall.

thought i might have found some help/info but disappointed it was another waste of time.

“Support” is there to gently convince you the problem can’t be solved without paying for a new product by suggesting things that don’t work. They know you are pissed so they drag you through the mud and the hallways that lead nowhere while this realisation is settling in that you have to pony up.
I got the 400 error when android version stopped being supported, and rooting to a newer version android didn’t even offer youtube in playstore. Because you need a £2000 phone to play videos that play on a £200 desktop.
