How to Add Music to Instagram Story

How to Add Music to Instagram Story

By Mel Hawthorne Leave a Comment

There are so many cool ways to customise your Instagram posts it’s easy to lose track – adding music to your story is just another one of those ways. You can add music in a few ways – from Instagram itself, or from your favourite streaming service, including Shazam, SoundCloud, and Spotify.

If you use external apps to post songs to your stories, the entire song will be shared as its own item (exactly like a photo you may add to your story) – and it’ll contain a handy backlink to the app in question that viewers of your story can follow. If you use the Instagram Music feature, you’ll instead get a sticker that you can add to your own images and videos

Here is how to add your favourite songs to your posts!

  1. Instagram

To add music directly from Instagram, simply start your story via the Your Story icon. Select your photo or film your video, add your filters, effects, and so on, and when you’re ready, tap the Sticker icon at the top of your screen.

Tip: Some devices don’t show the option to add music – this could be because Instagram hasn’t updated in a while, that particular device isn’t supported, or because of a bug. Make sure your app is up to date before you try to use the music feature!

You’ll get the option to add various types of stickers to your story – find the one labelled ‘Music’ and you’ll see a list of options – you can sort by genre, mood, or just go with the most popular ones – whatever you prefer.

Search for the Music option

Tip: You can use the Play button to hear a clip of the song to make sure you really like it!

When you’re happy with your selection, tap the song you want to use. If your story is an image, the clip will be limited to 15 seconds of music. If it’s a video, it’ll last for as long as the video does. Use the slider bar in order to select what part of the song you want to play.

That done, tap on the Done button and a music sticker will be added to your story. You can then move it around, resize it, or even twist it just like any other sticker. Place it where you want it, and you’re good to go!

  1. Spotify

In order to add a Spotify song to your Instagram story, you need to have the app installed on your phone. Open it, select the song you want to share and tap the share option. Among the options there, you’ll see one for your Instagram story.

Tapping it will take you to said Instagram story, where you can add various things like stickers, text and more to it before posting it. As an image, it’ll always show the cover art from the album you’ve picked a song from.

  1. SoundCloud

You need the SoundCloud app in order to share songs to your story. Open it, select the song you want to add and find the share option at the bottom. Tap it and select Share to Instagram Stories. The song and its background image will be imported into the app and you’ll be taken straight to your story, where you can add things like text, stickers, and so on before publishing it.

  1. Shazam

You need to have the Shazam app installed in order to be able to share songs from Shazam to your story. Open the app and either Shazam a song you’re hearing there and then, or select one from your library. Whichever you choose, use the options to get to the Share button. There, you’ll find an option for Instagram Stories.

Tap it, and the song and cover art will be imported into the Instagram stories section. Then, you can add stickers, text and more just like on other images. When you’re done, post your song to your story!
