MyChart is a secure app that provides you with many useful tools in terms of your medical information. As a patient, it enables you to gain access to certain sections of your medical records and test results. It is also an effective means for communicating to your healthcare providers by sending messages or requesting prescription renewals electronically. You can easily let certain facilities know that they should be expecting you during unanticipated medical situations to promote a faster check-in process. You can also access and view an overall health summary through an electronic record keeping system.
MyChart is great for people who are often busy or on the go. It is also particularly convenient for people who travel often and are unable to request medical records in person. If you use your phone for most other aspects of your life, it can be useful to set up an account to be able to monitor your health information more closely.
Where to Find MyChart
The app can be accessed with both Android and Apple devices. However, this guide will specifically cater to how to set up the application with an Android. It is also entirely free of charge! Keep in mind that you must be at least 18 years old in order to sign up and have received medical services from a facility that uses MyChart. If you are a parent or legal guardian, you also have the ability to request access to your child’s records as well.
Start by going to the Google Play store on your Android device. Search for “Epic MyChart,” and download the app. Upon launching the app, you must first accept the terms of agreement. You will then be directed to a screen that asks the app for permission to enable location services. If you choose not to enable this, you also have the option to manually enter your location information.
Since you are new to the app and have not previously made an account, click on the option to sign up for a MyChart account. You must then complete a sign up form used to identify you as a patient. In order to continue signing up for an account, you must enter things like your name, date of birth, social security number, zip code, etc. There is also a section to enter your MyChartPLUS activation code.
Your Activation Code
Your activation code can be accessed numerous ways. The code will appear on your billing statement that is mailed directly to your billing address. It is also visible on your discharge paperwork given to you at the end of your visit. It can also be emailed to you if you provide your email as you start up your services. Once you enter your code to create your MyChart account, you will no longer be asked to provide that information in order to identify yourself. Instead, you will be required to create a username and password. Your activation code will expire and no longer be valid after 30 days for security purposes.
If you do not have access to your MyChart activation code, you can also sign up without it by clicking, “Sign Up Online.” You will then be asked to provide your demographic information in order to properly identify you in the system. This information can also be updated later in the “Preferences”section from the menu list.
MyChart Emergency Contact
It is important to note that you should not use MyChart to contact your healthcare provider during emergency situations. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911. Responses are not expected to occur automatically and can take approximately 1-3 business days.
You can access MyChart without the app itself, but it can be extremely helpful to have when you are on the go. MyChart is great for keeping your medical records organized and readily available to you without requesting them in person or over the phone. This can save a lot of time and energy for the majority of your medical information needs.
