Sometimes the Samsung Galaxy S9 smartphone can become frozen and not respond to taps on the screen or pushing buttons. If you are frozen at a black or white screen, try the following tips to break out of it.
Fix 1 – Power Off
Try pressing and holding the “Power” button for about 30 seconds to see if the option appears to “Power Off” so that you can try to power it down. Sometimes holding “Power” may also cause the device to restart.
Fix 2 – Reset
- Press and hold down both the “Power” and “Volume Down” buttons until the device resets. Normally you would hold the buttons for about 10 to 20 seconds. Release the buttons once the screen changes.
- “Maintenance Boot Mode” screen should appear. Use the volume buttons to toggle the selection to “Normal Boot“.
- Make the selection by pressing “Power“.
Fix 3 – Ensure Power is Supplied
If frozen at a black screen, plug the S9 into an outlet using the included cable and adapter. Wait about 10 minutes, then try to power on the device. If you’re not sure power is being supplied, try a different outlet, a new plug, and a different cable.
