Galaxy S8: Transfer Music Files From PC

Galaxy S8: Transfer Music Files From PC

By Mitch Bartlett 2 Comments

Learn how to transfer music files to the Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone and enjoy listening to your music wherever you go. The device will support any non-DRM AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, MP3, WMA, 3GP, MP4, and M4A music files.  There are several ways you can transfer music to your device. Pick the best solution that works for you.

Windows users should first download and install the USB drivers for the Galaxy S8. Mac users can download and install Android File Transfer.

Option 1 – Manually Copy Files

  1. Connect the Galaxy S8 to your PC.
  2. Your device should be listed as “SAMSUNG-SM-xxxx” or something similar under “Computer” if you’re a Windows user, or on the Desktop if you’re a Mac user.
  3. Drag and drop any music files over to the “Music” folder listed within “SAMSUNG-SM-xxxx“.
Drag music file to folder on removable disk

Windows Media Player users can select the “Sync” tab and drag music over to the sync list. Selecting “Start sync“ will automatically copy music in the list to the device.

Option 2 -Using Smart Switch

You may also use the Samsung Smart Switch software to manage files on the Galaxy S8. Smart Switch is a file syncing environment that is made specifically for Samsung devices to easily transfer your music, videos and pictures. You can download and install the Smart Switch software from the Samsung website. Once the software is installed, it will automatically start whenever you connect the phone to your computer and is compatible with both Mac and Windows.

Be sure to properly eject the device from your computer properly by right-clicking on the removable disk and selecting “Eject“.

You’re now ready to use the Music app to listen to your favorite tunes while on the go.

FAQ

What about the Samsung Kies software? Can I use that to sync music to my Galaxy S8?

The Kies software is not compatible with the Galaxy S8. Smart Switch is the new Samsung sync solution.

Why is my computer not detecting my phone?

Which cable are you using to connect the S8 to your computer? Try to use the one included with your device. Some users have stated they have had better luck using a cable from a different device, so you may also want to give that a try.

Will the Galaxy S8 play the playlists (*.wpl) I have created with Windows Media Player?
