Galaxy S6 & S6 Edge: Insert or Remove SIM Card

By Mitch Bartlett 24 Comments

If you need to insert or remove a SIM or USIM card in your Samsung Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge smartphone, this tutorial is for you.

Removing SIM Card

  1. Locate the SIM Card tray. It is located below the Power button on the side of the standard S6 model. On Edge models, it is located on the top of the device.
  2. Use the eject tool included with your Galaxy S6 or a paper clip to gently push the small button on the SIM Card tray.
  3. The tray will eject and allow you to remove the SIM Card.

Inserting SIM Card

This is odd, because other sites say the S6 does not have a removable memory card.
Mine has the little hole, noted. No tool and despite using considerable force, I can’t get any try to pop out. Looks rock solid to me.

Which way does the sim card go in once I get the tray out? Card is too big (?) and once I get card in tray won’t go back in.

It says to put sim card in the tray. Mine is bigger than the tray. It doesn’t say up,down, forward or backside. No help

Yes great help, thanks. **Note to all S6 users: You may have to press firmly down with the Unlock Tool or paperclip. It takes quite a bit of pressure.

I replaced my SIM card and now I can’t make phone calls. And it’s not allowing me to send messages so you may not even get this! It comes up saying I can only make emergency calls now since this new SIM card is in. I put the old SIM card in again and it’s doing the same crap

Really poor design. Sim card didn’t snap into tray, so I assumed it was a place holder … Now the card is stuck in the slot and I have no phone to use. This is insane. Never had trouble with Samsung before.

Can’t stand that you can’t just press a button and it will open

Surprise ..the sim tray in Samsung galaxy-6 can be inserted reverse and easily damaged. It is foolish design. The designer should make it impossible to insert the tray reverse if it is pushed reverse.

No SIM card tool included, and I do not use or carry a paper clip. New out of the box Galaxy s6 Edge 128 GB. $1000 phone and I can’t make a telephone call on it. Lovely.
