YouTube is a great platform where original content creators can upload their videos and share their work with a worldwide audience. However, some users of the YouTube App have raised concerns that the volume is still not loud enough even when the sound is 100%. There are various ways to fix the low volume issue on the YouTube App. Here are some of the ways to solve this issue:
Adjust the YouTube App Volume
Sometimes, you may find that the volume is too low even when the speakers are set to maximum volume. Adjusting volume from the YouTube App is a quick and straightforward way to increase YouTube volume. You can turn up the volume by:
- Tapping on the video you want to watch.
- At the bottom of the video window, you’ll see the volume icon, drag the slider to the right to increase the volume, and get a louder sound.
Adjust the volume from settings
You may need to do this in case your volume rocker is malfunctioning. Some people actually think the ringtone volume is the same as media volume and end up having a low volume issue when watching videos on YouTube. It is important to note that there’s a distinct difference between the two.
To increase the volume on your device, go to settings, then sound and vibrations, then click on volume. Drag the media volume slider to the right for maximum volume. Go to the YouTube App and ensure the volume is turned up. After that, your device’s overall volume will increase, and you’ll be able to watch your videos.
Use a volume booster app
If adjusting volume from the YouTube App doesn’t work for you, the other alternative is to use a volume booster app. Volume booster apps are applications that enhance the sound of a device past their default max. They’re various options available on the app store for users to download.
Once you download the app, make sure you enable background use to allow the app to run in the background once it’s turned on.Then head to the YouTube app and click on the video you want to watch. You’ll realize that with the volume booster app turned on, the sound emanating from your device’s speaker is actually louder than the default sound.
Users should make sure they find the right volume booster app since some apps can actually damage your phone’s hardware. I recommend volume booster apps that have the highest ratings and positive reviews. For iOS users, they should download the YouTube volume booster app from the app store.
Use an equalizer app
Some users may find the volume boosters app to be quite irritating and uncomfortable since they enhance sound higher than the system defaults. I’ll recommend using an equalizer app to try and fix the low volume issue on the YouTube app. An equalizer is a software that adjusts and improves the sound quality or loudness of specific frequencies. Default equalizers on a majority of devices are not comprehensive and often work within specific apps.
To fix the low volume issue on the YouTube App, you’ll need to download an equalizer app from the app store. Always select the app with the most positive reviews and the highest number of downloads. Once you download the app, go ahead, and make a couple of simple adjustments on the equalizer app. You don’t need to be a pro to do this; you can always set the equalizer to default settings if you don’t achieve the desired sound quality.
Make sure there’s background music to balance the treble and bass to achieve the right volume. Once you’re done adjusting the sound quality, go to settings, and enable background access for the equalizer app. Finally, head over to the YouTube App and watch your videos with enhanced volume.
Enhance volume with Accessories
The truth is, most devices speakers, especially smartphones, won’t offer you the decent sound quality you desire. This is where accessories such as headphones, Bluetooth earbuds, and portable Bluetooth speakers can help. These accessories are astonishingly loud and very much capable of delivering higher volumes compared to the built-in speakers on your smartphone or tablet. This is the last option if all the above alternatives still can’t fix the low volume issue on the YouTube App. Make sure you purchase an accessory that suits you best.

I watch YouTube on my TV at level 16-20 usually and it’s fine. Sound level goes all the way up to 100 for reference. The only time I have sound issues is with the YouTube movies, not random creators. I purposely stay away from thier movies for that reason. If I do watch them, I mute the commercials so my eardrums don’t burst. Even if I turn the movies up to the max 100, it sounds like a whisper.

I have a Chromebook and the YouTube app does not have an onscreen volume slider on the bottom of the video screen of any video. I have tried everything and nowhere onscreen is their any volume or mute option. It works fine on the YouTube website, but not on the app, and a search for this has resulted in ….well, nothing. Anyone got any ideas?

Have a Samsung note 10 plus. I noticed the “Media volume limit” setting. I had this function off. However when I turned it on then turned it up to max, then turned the option off again, YouTube strangely had increased in volume slightly. I was having this low volume problem since the android 12 update where they removed the option to adjust volumes for individual apps. I thought that my volume was locked in at the low level I had previously set before the update with no way to adjust the volume after. Even though I deleted cache and data, uninstalled etc.

This didn’t help. Sometimes I get good sound. Sometimes it’s very faint. No way to turn up the volume.

The sound control option is completely missing from YouTube on android. The volume/mute button used to appear when pausing the video. Now it’s completely gone. It’s not in settings, it’s no where. All my sound works fine! Just not YouTube. YouTube is guilty of this technical failure and needs to fix it.

No. My Youtube volume used to be fine but now I can’t hear anything. Can’t hear the videos telling how to increase the volume. Frustrating.

settings > system> sound> sound control panel> playback> speakers> speakers properties > level-set to 100%, enhancements -check on loudness equalization (must do),advanced- set to highest (or 24 bit 96000 hz). I got it to work, try it, It did not go to 100% though !

Thank you for this. I use a volume boosting app on laptop and play through a speaker as stupidly the speaker is on the underneath of the laptop (why?!?!?!), but sometimes it’s still not enough. I personally (as someone who is honestly not very good with computers, especially the technically stuff) think it has a lot to do with the video creator too as some videos you barely need any sound on, and some you need the volume booster for. I even find discrepancies from the same YouTubers, especially in older videos, but still now, but say they film a video with multiple people (and therefore set the camera further back) then I find that I will need to use the volume booster. Yet in the previous and next videos, the sound is perfectly fine! So yeah, I don’t think all the blame is on YT and Google! The worst though is when you’re watching a film or TV series on netflix or prime or something and the music and action scenes are loud af and the talking is so quiet. So now I’ve had to download a separate extension to use on netflix and prime etc. But the sound quality does lesson slightly. So my brother (who has a BSc in Computer Science) is going to help me figure out of I can attach two wireless speakers at once which should hopefully improve the sound tenfold! But thank you for this. I think I’ll try some of these things for my phone!

It’s ridiculous for you to assume we are all stupid and never try to adjust our phone settings! My is not broken, nor did I fail to check settings.
Mark says
The booster apps don’t work on the YouTube app. I just disabled my YouTube app and used YouTube thru Chrome and my boosters work fine, at the moment at least. I believe I read Google is policing the phone volumes.
Mark says
This information is irrelevant to YouTube! I am here, continuing to Google, because I tried everything mentioned without any good results for YouTube. I even complained to YouTube.
I tried new headphones, a wireless speaker, one combo volume/eqilualizer app, one volume app, and one equalizer app. The first worked well on all but YouTube. The second and third distorted most things and did not work with YouTube.
I always pick apps with the most and highest reviews.
I am also irritated that most Google hits assume we are dumb and didn’t try to adjust system volume or assume our phones are broken and it’s never the case for me

Using a volume booster isn’t a solution, if google have a volume limiter then you apply a gain boost, you’ll end up with bad audio. clipping and white noise and even hiss at the worse. Google shoul’nt have this issue in the first place, people complains about it all the time, Google is well aware of the situation, and yet, they don’t give a s**t. Google is the kind of company to block youTube access to old iPhones users…….. of course I need a new phone mine is long time due, but it won’t be an Andoid for sure! When you buy an iPhone, it’s extremely expensive but then they don’t have as much tracking and telemetry than google. Google make no money with phones and their system is kinda free, the money goes all to samsung etc. Where the hell do you think Google is making their money? Yup, right in your……

Very comprehensive and easy to understand. The best explanation I’ve read so far for laypeople like me. Thank you.
