Fix: What to Do When the Windows Photo App Is Not Working

Posted on April 14, 2020 by Judy Sanhz Leave a Comment

It’s something that happens sooner or later. You open the app you need to use to only get an error message or have the app not open at all. The good news is that there some tips you can try to get the Windows Photo App up and running again.

The following tips are also beginner-friendly, so even if you don’t get along with technology, you’ll still be able to use them. Also, they won’t take up too much of your time.

Reset the Windows Photo App

Maybe the app just needs a good reset. To reset the Windows Photo app go to:

  • Settings
  • Apps
  • Scroll down until you find the Microsoft Photo App
  • Click on it
  • Click on Advanced options
  • Look for and click on the Reset button

If the reset option doesn’t work, you can try the other options, such as Terminate or Repair.

Update the Microsoft Photo App

The solution could also be staring you in the face in the face. To see if there is an update for the Photo app, go to the Microsoft Store and search for the Photo app. If there is an update waiting for you, there will be a button for you to click on.

Re-install Microsoft Photo App

If none of the previously mentioned tips worked, maybe it’s time to re-install the app. You’re not going to find an option in your computer’s settings to uninstall the app. To do so, you’re going to have to open the PowerShell (Admin).

When PowerShell is open, enter the following command:

  • get-appxpackage *Microsoft.Windows.Photos* | remove-appxpackage

Once the process is finished, go back to the Microsoft Store and re-install the Photo app.

Conclusion

The reason as to why the Photos app decided to go on strike can be many, but it should be up and running with these quick tips. As long as apps exist, you have no choice but to deal with these kinds of things. Which option are you going to try first?
