Firefox: How to Turn off Search Suggestions

Posted on February 19, 2022 by Judy Sanhz 1 Comment

You learned how to turn off search suggestions on Chrome; now it’s time to see how it’s done on Firefox. First, make sure that your Firefox browser is up to date. That way, you have all the bug fixes and any new features that may have been added. Here’s how you can get rid of that search suggestion feature on Firefox.

How to Disable Search Suggestions on Firefox

Who doesn’t like it when a new feature is added, right? But, sometimes, one that’s been around for a while is something you can do without. For example, you don’t need Firefox to give you any search suggestions every time you search for something. The good news is that you can turn it off. If you ever change your mind, you can turn it back on at any time by following the steps you followed to turn it off in the first place.

You’ll need to go into Settings to get started. You can do that by clicking on the three-lined menu at the top right and clicking on Settings.

Firefox Settings

Once you’re in Settings, click on the Search option to your left. You will see the Show search suggestions in address bar results on the right pane. Make sure to uncheck this option.

You can also enable or disable any other listed options as long as you’re there. For example, you can enable or disable Show search suggestions in private window.

How to Disable Search Suggestion for Firefox on Android

To get rid of the search suggestions on your Android device, you’ll need to open Firefox and tap on the there dots at the top right. Go to Settings, followed by the Search option to your left. Swipe down until you see various options to your right. One of those options is going to be the Show search suggestion option.

If you’re an Apple fan, steps to disable it are the same Settings > Search > Toggle off Show search suggestions.

Conclusion

The feature is meant to be useful and help you avoid typing more than you need to, but sometimes it simply gets in the way. If that’s your case, you know how you can turn it off or back on if you miss it after a while. Did you disable it on your computer and other devices? Nope. Turned off the search suggestions. Autocomplete, everything like that in the settings in Firefox on my Android phone, but if I go to google.com and start typing in their search box, it still puts up a drop down of search suggestions with every character I type.
