Admit it: you have searched for a few exes or some questionable content on Facebook at some point in the past. We have all done it. There is no shame! What do you do, though, when you no longer want those particular items showing up in your search history? No worries – I am going to show you how to remove the Facebook search history both via the app and the website in your browser.
Clearing Facebook Search History in the App
Open up your Facebook app and tap in the ”Search” box. Your most recent searches will show up. Tap the ”Edit” button on the right side of the screen.
This opens up your Activity Log. From here, you can click the ”X” next to individual searches or tap on the blue words ”Clear Searches,” which will remove it all.
If you choose to get rid of it all, the confirmation will state there is ”Nothing to Show,” and going back to tap in the Search bar will now reveal that it is devoid of any search history.
Clearing Facebook Search History on the Web
Open up Facebook in your favorite browser. Tap anywhere in the search bar to open up your search history.
Once again, click the ”X” next to individual searches, or click the ”Edit” button. Choosing that ”Edit” button will open up a new window, listing everything you have searched for on Facebook. Mine was empty when I started, because I just cleared it in the app for this article, so I threw the first couple of sites I could think of in there.
The cool thing about doing this on the web is that if you do not want to clear everything, you can always either scroll through and do them one at a time and even search by year. Perhaps you just know that back in 2016 you went a little crazy over a bad breakup and were doing some creeping. It happens, ya know? Click the year over on the right side of the screen and it will take you there quickly!
If you are ready to get rid of it all at once, just click the ”Clear Searches” link at the top-right of the screen. You will then receive a confirmation box.
While only you can see what you have searched for – anyone who has access to your phone or browser (while you are logged in) will also be able to see. This is the reason many of you (us!) wish to take these steps.
Do you have any other Facebook questions I can help with? Let me know! I am always here to help.
Happy Facebook searching!
