When you first create your Facebook account, you need to type in your first and last name. But what if you want to use only your first name? Well, the good news is that you can hide your last name, but you’ll need to tweak your language and privacy settings to do that.
Many users prefer to use a single name account for privacy reasons. That’s not really necessary as Facebook already offers plenty of privacy options that allow you to control who can find your profile, who can see your posts, who can see who you’re following, and more.
But if you still want to go by your first name on Facebook, follow the instructions available in this guide. Keep in mind that people will have a hard time finding you on Facebook after removing your last name from your profile. Moreover, you won’t be able to change your new name for 60 days.
How Do I Hide My Last Name on Facebook?
Enable Tamil Language Settings
- Go to the basic Facebook version.
- Then scroll down to Settings and privacy, or go straight to Account language settings.
- Select Tamil. This is a language that doesn’t use Latin characters.
- Then go to the name change page.
- Simply delete your last name and save the new settings.
Next time you log into Facebook, you’ll need to use the “Translate this page into English” option.
Enable Bahasa Indonesia Language Settings
If the first method didn’t work, use a VPN tool and set your location to Indonesia. Then go to Facebook’s language settings and select Bahasa Indonesia. Navigate to the name change section again and edit your name settings. Go to Nama belakang and remove your last name. Hit the Tinjau Perubahan button to save the settings.
Go back to settings to restore your default language settings.
⇒ Important Note: Facebook’s algorithms may eventually detect you’re using these tricks and you’ll be asked to verify your identity. The platform may even block your account temporarily if you can’t confirm your claimed identity.
⇒ Fun Fact: Many Indonesians have only one name, and the use of surnames can be quite uncommon in many regions.
Request a Mononym
Alternatively, you can contact Facebook directly and request a mononym. You need to fill in a special form and use the same name for both the first and Last name boxes.
It is possible to hide your last name on Facebook, but you need to tweak your language settings and select Tamil. Or you can use a VPN to fake your location to Indonesia while editing your account settings. Did you find other ways to hide your surname on Facebook? Do share your ideas in the comments below.
