Facebook: How to Get Notifications When Someone Posts

Facebook: How to Get Notifications When Someone Posts

January 2, 2023 by Madalina Dinita 12 Comments

Information overload is a significant issue on social media platforms, and Facebook is no exception. If you receive tens or even hundreds of notifications every day, it’s easy to miss important notifications. That’s why you should always filter your notifications and block unimportant alerts.

Facebook: How to Get Alerts When Someone Posts

If you want to receive notifications every time someone posts on Facebook, you can add them to Close Friends list. As a quick reminder, “Close Friends” are people you want to share everything with. To add someone to your Close Friends list, go to their Facebook profile, click on the Friends button, select Edit Friend List, and select Close Friends.Facebook-Friend-list-options

Now that you’ve labeled them as close friends, you’ll also receive notifications when they publish new posts.

Then, go to Settings, and select Notifications in the left-hand pane. Make sure to enable Facebook notifications. Go to Updates from Friends, and enable this category of notifications. You can further customize your settings and decide where you want to receive notifications (push, email, or SMS).

Additionally, make sure you follow all the people you want to get notifications from. Go to their profile page and click on the Friends button. Follow them to keep up with their online activities. If the Unfollow option is visible, you’re already following them on Facebook.

I have turned off notification of my friend in before.
There is no way to turn on notification back even if I added my friend to “Close friend”.

These instructions are for on a PC running Facebook inside Firefox.
On the Facebook tab, clock on your picture to open the menu.
    Choose Settings & Privacy.
    Choose Settings.
About half way down the menu on the left of the screen, you will find a Notifications setting. Click on that.
There you can set up notifications as you like, including getting texts. I have no idea what a lot of the notification settings mean.

Almost nothing works on Facebook. They override your settings and support hasn’t answered an inquiry in over 2 years. A mere shadow of what it once was. Their greed has ruined what used to be a fun site.

These instructions are wrong and have been for many years, yet I see an August of 2022 date! Facebook uses an algorithm to pick and choose the group of friends from which you will receive notifications. They pick your friends you will receive update notifications from,. You don’t! Sucks.

No, it doesn’t work. I did exactly like this and didn’t get notification from my close friends.

I am experiencing the same thing Tammy V. stated, “this doesn’t work anymore” is there any other work around d for this?

This doesn’t work anymore. There is no such thing as “Close Friends”. Now it’s “Favorites”. I have a few people tagged as “Favorites” and I am following them. Facebook is doing whatever it wants with the notifications. I DON’T get notifications for those that I’ve selected and I ramdonly get notifications from other friends. VERY FRUSTRATING!
