There are file formats such as JPG or WAV that are more easily identified. Those and a few others are file formats that are more commonly seen, and therefore you can tell if you’re dealing with an audio format or not.
EPUB files are a type of file you’re going to come across if you love to read. If you haven’t done much digital reading, this is a file you’re going to want to get to know better since it is trendy among e-book readers.
What are EPUB Files?
EPUB stands for Electronic Publication, and it is an Ebook format whose files will always end in .epub. This kind of format can be read on various devices such as a computer, tablet, phone, and an e-reader.
This type of file saves things such as fonts, pictures, words, tables, metadata details, and stylesheets. It doesn’t matter how big or small your device’s display is, it’s not going to affect how the file is projected.
How to Open an EPUB File
Whether you have an Android device or an iPhone, you’ll already have apps to open EPUB files right out of the box. If those apps are not what you expected you can use apps such as Moon+ Reader or Moon+ Reader Pro ($4.99).
The Pro version of the app is money well spent. It allows you to highlight in various colors any text and it magnifies the text as you highlight as well. If you’re on iOS, you can use an app such as EPUB Reader.
If you want to open an EPUB file on an Amazon Kindle, you will need to convert them from EPUB to MOBI. One app you can use to do that is Calibre. The app is available for Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X.
If you don’t feel like downloading another app, you can use Microsoft Edge. The browser has s built-in EPUB file reader that may not give you the best reading experience, but at least you’ll be able to see what’s on the file.
If you don’t have Edge as your default browser for EPUB files you can do so by right-clicking on the Start button and then going to Settings. Now, go to Apps > Default apps > choose the option that says Choose default apps by file type.
To the left, you’ll see a list of all the file types. Scroll down until you see .EPUB. Edge should be there by default, but if for some reason it’s not, click on the plus sign and app it manually.
