Most people use the same small set of devices, browsers, and apps to perform the same tasks. Because this is standard, it’s pretty safe to say that access from a new device, browser, or app is unusual. Dropbox assumes this to be the case and defaults to sending you an email every time this happens.
These can be particularly helpful if you’re not the one signing in, as you’ll be alerted that someone else is accessing your account. However, if you’re setting up a new device, this can result in multiple email alerts that you don’t want. This gets worse if you regularly switch to new devices, as you’ll get notifications every time.
How to Disable the New Sign-in Notification Emails
If you want to disable all of the new sign-in notification emails, you can do so from your notification settings. To be able to get there, you first need to sign in to the Dropbox website. Once you’ve done so, click on your profile icon in the top-right corner, then click on “Settings.”
When you’re in the settings menu, switch to the “Notifications” tab. Here, you should untick the last three checkboxes in the “Alerts” section. “A new browser is used to sign in” sends you an email when a new browser install is used to sign in to your account. “A new device is linked” sends you an email when a new device is used to access your account. Finally, “A new app is connected” sends you an email when a new install of an official Dropbox app is used to access your account.
Email notifications about new sign-ins can be a useful tool to alert you to someone accessing your account without permission. If you end up getting frustrated with receiving these notification emails when you log in yourself, you may want to disable them.
