MIUI is a mobile operating system for both smartphones and tablets that are based on the most popular operating system, Android. It is a product of the Chinese company that makes Xiaomi phones that supports the Android Operating System. This OS comes with unique features and themes.
The Chinese based company Xiaomi has made mobile phones that ran on the earliest versions of android but recently are slowing migrating to their OS, MIUI. Most Xiaomi phones get one Android version update and four years MIUI upgrade.
This process has limited the Xiaomi phones access to most features and applications. Now the MIUI Operating System has been made available on various mobile phones and tablet brands like One Plus, Pixel, Google, Samsung, Sony, Nexus, and HTC. Currently, this OS has a user base of over 200 million users and can be installed or ran on over 600 phone models.
The much-awaited successor of the MIUI 10 was officially released in October last year in China and has made its way across smartphones across the globe. It introduced cool features and upgrades that surpassed the MIUI 10. Soon afterward the updated plan (that allows other smartphones to migrate to or update their OS to MIUI 11) for the batches of phones that were supported to run on MIUI. Most supported devices can apply for MIUI or download and install it on their devices. So, if you are looking to upgrade your device to the latest MIUI OS then you have come to the right place.
How to Upgrade to Miui 11
With much ado, let’s take a look at how to upgrade your mobile phone or tablet to MIUI 11. First, you need to make sure that your phone belongs to the list of supported devices. You can check that list out here.
If you have verified that your phone version or brand supports MIUI 11 then you can upgrade to it like a normal upgrade with most phones. Navigate to Settings on your device and click on system updates. This is usually found in “About Phone” located at the bottom of the settings menu. If you are in system updates then go to Check for Updates. The list of updates available should display a file that is about 766 MB in size and has the name MIUI v11.0.2.O.PFJINXM or something very similar containing MIUI v11. This has the code to upgrade your OS to MIUI 11. Depending on your network speed, this may take a while or just a few seconds.
After this is done your mobile may take several minutes installing the MIUI 11 OS. You will need to restart your phone to switch to MIUI 11 OS after it’s done.
If your phone, however, did not get MIUI 11 update in settings but you are positive it supports MIUI 11 then you can also do a workaround by switching your region. You will need to go to settings, turn your location off, and change your region settings to China or India. After this is done you can reload your phone and still go to settings to check for updates. Make sure you have a good internet connection. You should be able to download MIUI 11.
WeChat and Miui
Another way to get MIUI OS on your mobile phone is via the application with WeChat. If your phone was among the supported devices then there is a good chance it also has a WeChat account. Click on WeChat application in apps and type MIUI in the search bar of the official accounts. This will display a dropdown menu with MIUI as an account. You can the fellow and contact their official page for an application code that will be sent to you shortly. Copy the application code that comes with a button “抢先体验” which means first experience the MIUI 11 features. Click on this button, after this you can sign in to your WeChat or Xiaomi account. Here you will be prompted to enter the application code you copied (a simple paste will surface) and be sure to click the terms and agreement box before you click enter.
If your application’s submission is effective, all you have to do is await the approval. Normally the application approval process takes some time but it may even be longer with the current global lockdown. Once it gets approved, however, you can download and have access to all the MIUI 11 features
