A laser printer is a high-resolution printer that employs the use of the electrostatic reproduction technology characterized by photocopying machines to fuse the text and graphic images to paper. For every successful page printed, the printer’s controller circuitry receives the printing instructions from the computer and builds a bitmap of every dot on a page. The controller ensures that the print engine’s laser transfers a precise replica of this bitmap to a photostatically sensitive drum or belt. See light-emitting diode (LED) printer, resolution.
