The weakest link in security for your bank account and personal data is your password. Most password breaches are a result of using a weak password or reusing the same password in different accounts. Equally, passwords cracking techniques have improved with time, this can leave you vulnerable to hackers.
To keep your data secure, you’ll need to use a unique and strong password every time you change your password. But, when you have so many accounts how do you keep track of all the changes?
LastPass: Password Manager
Managing your passwords can be confusing, even to the most tech-savvy individuals. Have you ever wondered how many apps we have in our devices that need their passwords to be updated regularly? There’s nothing worse than having to reset passwords several times because you can’t remember the last password. The good news is, you’re not alone. You can fix this with the LastPass password manager.
LastPass is a secure password manager that can be used to generate secure and strong passwords. All you need to remember with LastPass is your Master Password, and it will help you to manage the rest.
It uses a strong algorithm encryption system that ensures your passwords are well secured. Let’s walk through the process of connecting the LastPass to the various applications, so you can see how to use it to manage your passwords.
Getting Started and Connecting Services to LastPass
First and foremost, you need to create a LastPass account. Open the LastPass site and create your user name and your Master Password. Make sure that you can memorize your Master Password as you will be using it to access the account in the future. The password must, however, be strong enough to be especially secure.
Next, you’ll need to download and install the web browser extension. This will be used for all your password management needs. The extension is very useful as it will relieve you of the burden of saving and generating your new passwords in the future. The passwords will be updated automatically when you save. It will also auto-fill your user names in addition to updating the existing passwords. Furthermore, you will be able to access your vault, and you will also be able to customize your account based on your personal preference.
Having downloaded and installed the web browser extension, we highly recommended that you log in to the browser extension to access your LastPass vault. This way, you can create an SMS password recovery which is critical when recovering your password. It will also generate a snapshot of your Vault data, which will be encrypted and stored in your cache file.
Errors and Notifications
Be aware that the login in the LastPass extension icon will only be active when the color is red. If the color turns yellow, there’s an error. You may click the icon to view the error message. The icon will be grey or black if the status is inactive.
After logging in, you may want to customize your browser extension preference, set the level of security such as the idle timeout, or change your notification preference. After accessing your Vault account, you can manage your preference from the Settings module. Here, you’ll be able to update the multi-factor authentication to enhance your security or choose the trusted devices from your list of devices among others.
Enjoy Feeling Safe Again
Having set up your account, you can now enjoy the services of the LastPass browser extension seamlessly. All you need to do is to log in to access the Vault, the central place where you will find all your stored passwords and data. You can search the items in your Vault, copy your Username and Password on the website, and get a login.
You may also be able to use recently used shortcuts in addition to generating new passwords for new sites easily. LastPass comes with additional features such as the Sharing Centre where you can also share Usernames and Passwords when you are using LastPass Teams or Family. You can relax knowing that your passwords and accounts are secure.
