The hard drives in your Windows 10 computer are a vital piece of hardware for the computer to work. That’s why how you take care of the hard drive will impact how well it will work.

Without a hard drive, you wouldn’t be able to use your computer like you usually do because that’s where the OS is saved. A full hard drive can also be the source of problems such wasn’t being able to access your files. Here’s how you can check the health of your computer’s hard drives.

How to Check Hard Drive Health Using the Command Prompt

Since your going to need the Command Prompt for this, open it by using the search box to open it. Once it’s open, type the following command:

wmic diskdrive get status, model

In the results, you’ll see the model of the hard drive and if it’s healthy or not.

Check Hard Drive Health Using the File Explorer

Open the File Explorer by pressing the Windows and E keys. On the pane on the left, click on the This PC option and right-click on a drive.

When the new window appears, click on the Properties box, followed by the Tools tab.

Once you’re in the Tools tab, click on the Check button. You’ll see a message letting you know that no errors were found, but you can still click on the Scan Drive option.

Conclusion

By checking the health of your hard drives even though they’re not presenting any problems can prevent more significant issues. It’s a lot easier and faster to fix problems as soon as they appear. Do you usually check the health of the hard drives only when they start to give you problems?
