Why Is There a Black Arrow in Device Manager?

Why Is There a Black Arrow in Device Manager?

Posted on June 25, 2019 by Mona Leave a Comment

If you are a Windows user, you might come across the black arrow. You can see the black arrow in all versions of Windows in Device Manager. It is not limited to any specific Windows operating system and it might seem confusing to some users when it appears. So, what is the black arrow and what do you need to know about it?

What is Device Manager?

Device Manager controls the linked devices to the computer. In Windows, you can organize and manage your devices through Control Panel. Device Manager is a subcategory in the Control Panel. It is a dialogue box which monitors the devices. It shows all of the attributes of the connected devices.

Where Can You Find the Black Arrow

The black arrow is a way to communicate about the disability of the device. It means that it is associated with a certain condition.

The black arrow appears next to the devices in the Device Manager’s dialog box. You might be thinking that it appears in case of a hardware emergency, but do not let the black arrow scare you. It only appears to notify about the disabled devices.

If a device is not working properly or incompatible to your system. Your computer system disables it. The black arrow informs you of the current compatibility status of your device and allows you to explore a viable solution to the incompatibility problem of the device.

The black arrow will disappear once you solve the issue.

How Can You Remove the Black Arrow

The black arrow notifies you about the disabled devices. So you can remove the black arrow by enabling the device.

If a device is facing compatibility issues, you will see an exclamation mark next to the device. Even if you enable it, a yellow warning symbol will appear next to the device. These symbols display different Device Manager Codes. If the black arrow shows us the Code 22 error, this means that a particular device is disabled.

A disabled device is unable to work properly. You have to enable it in the device manager. If a device continues to malfunction, you should consider other parameters. Check the device drivers and system cards. Make sure these side features are working in harmony with the device. An incompatible device driver and dysfunctional support cards will cease the device.

What happens if you try every possible solution to your device problem, but your device is still not working?

The good news is you don’t need to invest in a new device. Instead, remove your device from the Device Manager. Simply restart your PC and add the device one more time. Windows will add your device. You will get the screen message of adding a new device. Now add the device drivers or you can just update the old drivers.
