Password managers are fantastic tools for helping you securely store and manage your login details. Many password managers also offer the ability to store other data too. For example, Bitwarden also allows you to save “Identities”. Identities are a list of personal details such as address, passport number, and phone number. These are the sort of personal details that you might need to enter when creating certain accounts. You can also add custom fields to identities.
This will allow you to specify other data that you want to be available when auto-filling the identity to a form. Saving these details in your password manager can be a really helpful timesaver. It can auto-fill all the data for you. You also don’t have to go and find the documents that contain the details if they’re rarely required and you don’t remember them. Bitwarden is one of the most popular picks for password managers out there.
How to hide identities from the default “Tab” tab
One of the things you may notice, however, when you’ve saved an identity, is that it always appears in the default “Tab” tab of the Bitwarden browser extension. This is intended to make it easily accessible for auto-filling purposes. Unfortunately, this also makes it easier to find if anyone happens to get access to your computer for a few moments. Thankfully, if you don’t like your identity entries being shown on the default “Tab” tab in the extension pane, you can change this.
To configure your extension settings, you first need to open the browser extension pane. To do so, click on the Bitwarden extension icon. Next, switch to the “Settings” tab, then scroll to the bottom and click on “Options”.
On the options page, tick the checkbox labelled “Don’t show identities on tab page”.
By following the steps in this guide, you can hide identities from the default “Tab” tab of the Bitwarden browser extension. If you do so, you will still be able to find the identities listed in the “My vault” tab and be able to select them for auto-fill purposes.
