Bitwarden: How To Enable Dark Mode

Bitwarden: How To Enable Dark Mode

Posted on April 8, 2021 by Mel Hawthorne 1 Comment

Historically, most websites on the internet have used white or brightly coloured backgrounds. More recently, many have started to offer a dark mode alternative. Dark mode is a catch-all term for the use of a dark colour scheme, it doesn’t necessarily imply the main colour is black. This dark colour scheme offers a number of benefits. First of all, in dark environments, such as If you’re using your device at night, a dark colour scheme appears far less bright and glaring. Secondly, by avoiding the use of sky blue colours, the production of the body’s natural sleep hormone Melatonin is not inhibited, helping you to have better sleep patterns.

The third advantage only affects devices with an OLED or AMOLED display. These displays have each pixel produce light, rather than filtering a constant backlight. This means that the device uses less power, as it’s having to produce less light. Pixels that are actually black, can be turned off entirely, meaning they use no power at all.

These advantages are a big reason behind the push for more and more apps and websites to offer a dark mode. Bitwarden is one such app that offers a dark mode, at least it does so for the browser extension. As of the time of writing, the Bitwarden web vault doesn’t offer a dark mode option at all.

How to enable dark mode in the Bitwarden browser extension

To configure your extension settings, you first need to open the browser extension pane. To do so, click on the Bitwarden extension icon. Next, switch to the “Settings” tab, then scroll to the bottom and click on “Options”.

Open the extension pane, then click “Options” near the bottom of the “Settings” tab.

Scroll to the bottom of the options page, then use the dropdown box labelled “Theme” to select which theme you want to use. Bitwarden actually offers three: Dark, Light and “Nord”.  You can also choose “Default” which will match your system theme.

Use the “Theme” dropdown box to select “Dark” to enable dark mode.

Dark mode is a popular alternative colour scheme design that uses primarily dark colours. By following the steps in this guide, you can enable dark mode in the Bitwarden browser extension.

Providing liquidity for launches in the DEFI space. We will front ETH to developers who come to us with new and innovative concepts and contracts in exchange for a reasonable amount of equity in their project.

As projects we’ve helped fund moon, we will sell of chunks of the equity and do buybacks of our own token, rewarding our holders by increasing the price of INUVAD and adding more Liquidity to the pool
