Asus Vivobook F510 Ua Review

Asus Vivobook F510 Ua Review

Posted on June 25, 2019 by Mona Leave a Comment

It is very hard to come by a cheap 15-inch laptop, what we see from most budget laptop makers is them reducing the screen size to about 10 to 12 inches in order to hit a low-cost point. To an extent, it was indeed granted, but the ASUS VIVOBOOK F510UA with a size of 15.6 inches is not what we would call a budget laptop because it is above the average price of 500$; it can be gotten for around 590$, but it is too close to a budget laptop to call it otherwise.

The ASUS VIVOBOOK F510UA impresses with a well-thought design coupled with eight-generation Intel Core i5 performance. There is one area it is lacking in, and that is the battery life.

So take a look at this review of the ASUS VIVOBOOK F510UA if you are thinking of getting a new laptop and see if it meets your needs.

Design

For a laptop with an affordable price, the Vivobook F510UA dazzles with a sleek and modernized look that makes you wonder if it is really a budget laptop. Although you can’t get an aluminum chassis for this price, the Vivobook F510UA has a plastic enclosure that is slim and adequately solid.

The Vivobook F510UA has a measurement of 0.8 by 14.2 by 9.6 inches whilst having a weight of about 3.57 pounds. It is not like the former laptops that have optical drives added to them, just like the modern laptops, it doesn’t come with the capacity to read a CD or DVD without the use of an external factor.

Keyboard and Touchpad

Taking a look at the keyboard you would see that it is roomy therefore it is comfortable and it also ensures that you type in a near silent fashion. It is definitely not a cheap, noise making keyboard. The keys offer a thin travel distance with a sturdy feel and a suppressed click.

The keyboard doesn’t have backlighting, but this shouldn’t come as a surprise because that is a feature that is often left out of budget models. The touchpad is very responsive, but with a measurement of width 4.1 inches and a depth of 2.9 inches, the touchpad seems undersized.

The touchpad also offers a faint click when pressed just like the keys. Placed at the top-left corner of the touchpad is a fingerprint reader.

Display

Although the Vivobook F510UA doesn’t support touch, it makes up for it with a screen with a matte finish that retains the glares and reflections.

Most budget laptops have thick screen bezels that make the display relatively smaller than it actually is and also gives a common out-of-date feel to the design as a whole. But the Vivobook F510UA is different from the rest, its bezels are narrow and they create an exquisite frame for the 15.6-inch display.

Asus has once again taken things up a notch, with the Vivobook F510UA having a full HD (1920 by 1080) resolution screen. It uses IPS panel technology to offer dynamic colors and clearer images which is mostly found in notebooks that go at a higher price.

The full HD screen is a joy to use, whether you want to use it for your office work or just for watching movies (with great viewing angles). It has a NanoEdge display that is responsible for the 80% screen to body ratio, offering you more screen estate. Asus also claims that the Vivobook uses its very own in-house Splendid Visual Optimization technology.

The speakers on this laptop are astonishing, offering great maximum volume with a little mix of bass. You could comfortably watch a movie or stream videos with these speakers because they can sufficiently fill a small room, and playing music is a delight.

Battery Life

This is the major area of concern with the Vivobook F510UA, with the introduction of the new chip, it was expected that the computing would be better.

Off a single charge, the Vivobook F510UA lasts for about 5 hours 45 minutes, so routinely you would have to tether it to a wall socket which is not all that bad considering the fact that it is a large laptop using a 15.6-inch panel.

Performance

The Vivobook F510UA is one of the first releases to boast of Intel’s eight generation processors, so we can expect better performance from it.

It comes equipped with a quad-core 1.6GHz, Intel Core i5-8250U processor, 8GB of RAM and Intel UHD Graphics 620. The CPU has four processing cores coupled with eight processing threads and performs within a base frequency of 1.6GHz and a turbo frequency of about 3.4GHz.

What is absolutely astonishing about this laptop is the fact that Asus was able to fit an 8th-generation processor and sufficient memory into a relatively compact machine.

Having a CPU Benchmark score of around 7381 points, this system is well equipped for your day-to-day activities.

Connectivity

Having a thinner chassis, the number of USB ports is relatively less than what you would find on most notebooks, but it still manages to feature Type-A and Type-C USB ports, meaning that you can connect all types of USB devices without worrying about a dongle.

On the left side, you will see a USB Type-A port along with with an SD card slot, while on the right side is a USB Type-A 3.0 port, a USB Type-C port, an HDMI port, a headphone/ mic combo, and the power connector. One thing we are missing is the optical drive.

Quick Pros & Cons of the ASUS VivoBook F510UA

While it is certain that the Asus Vivobook F510 Ua is a good laptop, you will need to assess all of the specs and some of the drawbacks of the model. Being better informed will ensure that you don’t miss any dealbreakers that you might have, which would make this a much more satisfying purchase.

Pros

– Latest 8th generation Intel Core i5-8250U 1.6GHz processor
– Amazing sound quality
– 15.6″ Anti-glare full HD display
– 8GB DDR4 RAM and 1TB HDD

Cons

– Keyboard flex
– Lack of SSD
– No keyboard backlighting

Final Verdict

The Asus Vivobook F510UA is amazingly cheaper than most laptops with similar size, and with its capabilities and specifications, it is the best around for a budget. The 1TB of space is enough for most users, but it would have been better if an SSD (solid-state-drive) was added for the sole purpose of loading apps and programs and then the hard drive used only for storage.

So, if you are looking for a work or college laptop that won’t cost you much and at the same time offer high-class performance for a budget laptop, then you should definitely go for the ASUS VIVOBOOK F510UA.
