If your Apple TV isn’t responding properly or you are experiencing strange problems with it, it might be a good idea to reset it to the original factory settings. This will clear all data and settings from the device. Here’s how it’s done.
Using the remote
- Press and hold both the » and D buttons on the remote for 6 seconds or until the status light blinks amber.
- Select a language.
- Select “Factory Restore“.
Using the menus
- Select “Settings“.
- Select “General“.
- Choose “Reset“.
- Select “Restore“.
Using iTunes (2nd gen and higher only)
- Disconnect the power and HDMI cables from the Apple TV, and connect it to your computer using the USB cable.
- In iTunes, select the device on the left pane, then choose “Restore“.
