The Google Feed (formerly known as Google Now) feature on the Android devices is considered great by some users, and annoying by others. Some people live by their Google Feed cards, while others find them annoying and intrusive. Here’s how to turn the feature on or off.
- From the Home screen, tap “Apps“.
- Choose “Google“.
- Tap the “Menu” button in the upper-left corner.
- Select “Settings“.
- Choose “Your feed“.
- Set the settings on the screen as deisred:
- The “Notifications” setting controls whether or not updates display in the notification area. Set it to “On” or “Off” as desired. You can also set a Ringtone or Vibrate option on urgent updates.
- The “Feed” setting turns the entire Google Now feature on and off. When selected, you can also choose to delete your Google Feed preferences and disable Google Feed on all the devices tied to your account.

Thanks for the tip. Google app>profile picture>Settings>General>Discover, and turn off Discover. So glad to get rid of that. What passes for “news”, my god. It’s all celebrities and/or bad behavior. SO don’t need that.
Mayank Parashar says
Hey guys so to remove the news feed or add the news feed. Go to Google then click on your profile photo on the top right. Then click Settings -> General. In this Discover is the news feed. You can toggle it on or off according to your desire. Hope it helps.

That’s it for Android 10 users!

i TI just now stumbled on the solution. I got the newest version of Google (Android 10) I think. Find “Home Settings”.. Then click on “Swipe Access”.. Then pick choice “Nothing”. RESULT: Nothing is displayed tothe left of the home screen. Meaning that the annoying “Feed” has vanished.
Fred Kirchner says
The trouble with GOOGLE SEARCH, they never provide a date for every webpage they show you. So this particular page by Mitch Bartlett could be 5 years old and completely obsolete. Google probably has eliminated “Google Feed” years ago from their app. That is why in 2021 nobody can find it.
PROBABLY 90% OF WHAT YOU GET ON GOOGLE SEARCH IS OUTDATED OR OBSOLETE.

Moe says
Easy to remove it, go to google app on the app store or use this link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox click uninstall, this will uninstall the latest update and revert to stock app. While on the app page click on the three dots on top right to disable auto update for this app. Now feed will be gone or just go to settings and disable feed.

r below is right! It’s very easy to turn off. Like he said, long press on a home screen to pull up the launcher to change your wallpaper and add widgets. On the bottom right is a button for “Home Settings”. There you can turn off “Display Google App”.
BAM! Your fully customized annoying feed of clickbait is gone!!
David says
‘Signing out’ from the Google app turns off the feed page. You just have to find out where… It’s not obvious.
Settings > Accounts and privacy
Touch ‘Google account’
This launches the sign-out pop-up
Select ‘Sign out’
r says
press over the wallpaper
then it appears wallpaper, widgets, transitions and settings
click on settings
disable google feed
good luck!

Google please, this Feed screen on the far left that doesn’t want to seem to go away (even when I toggle off “Your Feed”) is just an unbelivable daft “feature”.
No good has come to any company by forcing things down customer’s throats. Maybe in short term, but I am now considering alternate launchers or a different phone for my next upgrade.
Give us a simple option to get rid of that forced far left Feed screen.
mischa says
I went to (phone) settings, then applications, then application manager, then google icon, then unclicked box next to “notifications” (as well as clered cache and cleared storage under ‘manage storage’) on a samsung android. This is an annoying unwanted feature they automatically added without knowledge.

I posted below regarding deleting updates for the Google App to bring back the switch to disable the feed. Alas, about 24 hours after allowing the Google App to update, it seems to have re-enabled itself.
Mike says
I had this issue on my Nexus 5X. I didn’t have the option to disable the Feed even though I had seen the switch previously. I think a more recent Google App update disabled the switch. I was able to get rid of the feed by: removing all app updates for the Google App (this set me back to v6.something). Now I can see the switch and disable the feed. I hesitated with updating the Google App for two months, but finally allowed it to update. Luckily, the feed is still disabled for me, so this may work for others.
Also, is this just a “feature” of the Google Now Launcher? If so, perhaps just switching to an alternate launcher could work for some people.
Bob says
The option to disable google now cards feed has been removed (!) so what worked was signing out of the Google app. Here’s how:
Open Google app
Tap sandwich bar then Settings
Tap Accounts and Privacy
At the top, tap your Google account which is probably listed and then sign out
RA says
Mine will no longer allow mebto simply turn off my feed. I got rid of it my going to settings, apps, google, clear search data. It is gone now!
Katrina says
On my android, next to the disable feed option, there is an actual note that says you can’t disable the feed on newer versions of the google search app. I just got rid of the app as best I could (disable). The feed is really annoying.
Filippo says
me too I still have Feed page on screen left. And I don’t want it!
Christine says
This will stop it:
Tap on google bar
Press the Google icon until three lines show up
Tap the three lines
Tap settings
Tap autocomplete
Turn off
Feed disappears
Mitch Bartlett says
Is it a widget? Can you tap and hold it to move it to trash?
