Android: “Developer Options” is Missing From Settings

Android: “Developer Options” is Missing From Settings

February 27, 2023 by Mitch Bartlett 48 Comments

If you’ve found that the Developer Options selecting is missing from the Settings of your Android device, you may have to enable the menu in your settings. The option hidden unless you unlock it. You can enable the Developer Options menu using these steps.

If you’re a developer and need to access the USB Debugging, Stay awake, Allow mock locations or other developer settings, follow these steps to enable the Developer Options selection.

  1. Open the “Settings” app.
  2. Scroll down to the bottom and select “About device“, “About phone” or “About tablet“. On some models, select “General” before this step.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom and tap “Build number” repeatedly. A message should appear on the screen that says, “You are now * steps away from being a developer.” Keep tapping until it says, “You are now a developer.“
  4. Now back on the main “Settings” screen, “Developer Options” should appear as a selection.

You can now use you Android device with Android Studio or any other developer tools.

Clearly this “article” is not from January 2023, seeing as there’s comments from ’21 on here. And that “tap build number 7 times” crap doesn’t work on most phones (if any of them) anymore. Certainly not on Android 11’s lastest patch

    Firestick OS 7.6.0.3
Settings > My Fire TV > About > Fire TV Stick Max – clock OK OK OK OK O

Okay Kidding.. You only have to click OK a few times until it pops up about becoming a “developer”.

I’ve got a Samsung A20, managed to turn on and find my developer options and figured out how to get passed the “grayed out” option I wanted to change, but everytime I exit the screen the setting default back to what they were before? Is there some way to save the changes I’ve made that I missed somehow?

@mohammad bin amir. After enabling Developer Options, go to Settings > System > Advanced > Developer Options > USB Debugging. Turn it on. You also have to download something like Android File Transfer for Mac

If you cleared your setting data your developer options disappared from your phone and it won’t show up if you click on build number seven times unless you factory reset you phone that would make it come back

In Google Pixel, in System Settings there is an option called System. If your phone is telling you Developer Options have been enabled but do not show in Settings Menu by itself, you may find the Dev Options under System. I located it after I ran a ‘search’ on my phone’s Settings search option. Good luck folks!

Not only does my OUKITEL Android 10 phone not have an ABOUT PHONE option in the settings folder, When I finally found the build number and did the 7 TAP DANCE routine, I was told “No NEED” already in developer mode. When I went back to settings, absolutely nothing had changed, still no developer option. When I plug my phone into a computer it is not recognized, as debug option to switch to MEDIA device is not made available on phone. Someone help this poor old Idiot (Me)!

I am using apex launcher on and 4.2.2 tablet. I found dev options by using the ”activities” widget which pulls up a list of apps. Scroll down to settings, click on it to expand the menu, scroll down to dev options.

I clicked build 7 times and got a message I am a developer, but the develop options is not listed. There is no way to get to them. If I try clicking build again it says I am already a developed.. There is no developer option listed in either about phone or settings. (Pixel 3 XL
