Android: “Developer Options” is Missing From Settings

Android: “Developer Options” is Missing From Settings

By Mitch Bartlett 27 Comments

If you’ve found that the Developer Options selecting is missing from the Settings of your Android device, it’s probably because you have Android OS version 4.2 (JellyBean) or higher. The option is now hidden and has to be enabled using these steps.

If you’re a developer and need to access the USB Debugging, Stay awake, Allow mock locations or other developer settings, follow these steps to enable the Developer Options selection.

  1. Open the “Settings” app.
  2. Scroll down to the bottom and select “About device“, “About phone” or “About tablet“. On some models, select “General” before this step.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom and tap “Build number” repeatedly. A message should appear on the screen that says “You are now * steps away from being a developer.” Keep tapping until it says “You are now a developer.“
  4. Now back on the main “Settings” screen, “Developer Options” should appear as a selection.

You can now use you Android device with Android Studio or any other developer tools.

I am using apex launcher on and 4.2.2 tablet. I found dev options by using the ”activities” widget which pulls up a list of apps. Scroll down to settings, click on it to expand the menu, scroll down to dev options.

For those who couldn’t find Developer Option even after tapping build number 7 times.
I found it in System > Advanced > Developer Options.
    Hope this helps someone.

I clicked build 7 times and got a message I am a developer, but the develop options is not listed. There is no way to get to them. If I try clicking build again it says I am already a developed.. There is no developer option listed in either about phone or settings. (Pixel 3 XL
