A password manager’s role is to save your passwords and help you manage them more efficiently. Unfortunately, many users complained 1Password sometimes fails to save their passwords. When that happens, the tool may also throw the following error message ” We were unable to reach the server.” This error usually occurs when your network connection isn’t strong enough, or you recently changed your account settings. Let’s see how you can fix this error on Chrome.
What to Do if 1Password Is Unable to Reach the Server
Check What’s Blocking the Connection
First things first, try to identify what’s blocking 1Password’s connection. Disable your antivirus, firewall, and VPN and check if the error persists. Additionally, disable all your browser extensions, except 1Password, and try to save your new password again.
Restart your router or unplug the device completely if you haven’t done that in a very long time. Unplugging the router helps you clear all those temporary files that might be clogging up the connection.
Clear the Cache and Update Your Browser
If you’re running an outdated browser version on your computer, check for updates. Install the latest browser version and check if 1Password can save your passwords now. If you’re still getting the same server connection error, click on your browser menu, go to History and select Clear your browsing data. Delete your browser cache, refresh the tab and try again.
Allow All Cookies
To make sure 1Password can properly save and manage your password, allow all third-party cookies in your browser. Go to Settings, navigate to Site Settings, and select Allow all cookies under General settings.
Reinstall 1Password
If the error refuses to go away, uninstall 1Password completely. Click on Chrome’s menu, select More tools, go to Extensions and locate 1Password. Select the extension and hit the Remove button. Restart Chrome and install the extension again.
Conclusion
There are times when 1Password is unable to reach the server and fails to save your passwords. To troubleshoot this issue, tweak your browser settings to allow all cookies and update your web browser. Then temporarily disable all the other extensions, your antivirus, firewall, and VPN and check if any of these tools were blocking 1Password. Did we miss any solutions?
