Word 2010/2007: Divide Page Into Columns

How do you divide your Microsoft Word 2010 or 2007 document into columns of 2 or 3? Follow these steps:

1. Highlight the text you wish to put into columns with your mouse.

2. Click Page Layout.

3. Click Columns then select the amount of columns you wish to apply.

    I tried this help of putting a two-page list consisting of a single column of numbers into two columns so that only one page would be needed. I followd the suggestions in this help, and nothing happened.
