Windows Update: KB917537 is Repeatedly Offered or Fails to Install

Windows Security Update KB917537 keeps installing itself over and over again in Windows XP and fails to install in Windows 2003 SP1.

To fix this problem perform the following steps:

1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add or Remove Programs.

2. Click Add/Remove Windows Components, double-click Internet Information Services

3. Click to clear the Common Files check box, click OK, click Next, and then click Finish.

The next time the update installs should be the last time.
