Microsoft Windows Media Center is a wonderful application for recording TV shows. Sometimes it’s too good at what it does, and you’ll end up with tons of recorded episodes that you will never watch. Unfortunately, if you want to delete multiple recordings from WMC at once, the software doesn’t allow it. You have to delete one at a time. There is a workaround you can perform though to get rid of mass quantities of WMC recordings.
You will need to locate the recorded files within Windows, then delete them from the standard Windows interface using these steps.
- Open the file manager, then navigate to “Computer” or “This PC“.
- Select “Recorded TV” in the left pane. If you don’t see that option, navigate to “C:\Users\Public\Microsoft\Recorded TV“.
- All of your recordings are listed. From this screen, you can hold down the “CTRL” key and select each file you wish to delete or hold “Shift” and select rows of file.
- Once you have the files selected that you wish to delete, hit the “Delete” key on your keyboard. The files will go to the Recycle Bin. So if you need to free hard drive space for more recordings, empty it.
When you return to Windows Media Center, the recordings you deleted will be gone.
