When trying to use Windows Live Messenger (WLM) you get an error when trying to login:

We were unable to sign you in to Windows Live Messenger, possibly because of a problem with the service or with your Internet connection. Please make sure that you are connected to the Internet.

Error code: 81000306

To try to solve this problem, follow these steps:

1. Click Start > Run and type regsvr32 Mssip32.dll

2. Click Start > Run and type regsvr32 Initpki.dll

3. Click Start > Run and type regsvr32 Softpub.dll

Click OK when they are registered successfully.

Restart the computer and see if WLM works now.
