How to enable the Internet Explorer 7 icon to be on the desktop if it has disappeared.

1. Click Start and type REGEDIT.

2. Click the plus sign next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER
then SOFTWARE
then Microsoft
then Windows
then CurrentVersion
then Explorer
then HideDesktopIcons
then NewStartPanel

3. In the right hand pane, double-click the {871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D} key.

If this key doesn’t exist, you can right-click NewStartPanel and click New > DWORD Value. Give it a name of {871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}

4. Give the key a value of 0.

5. Close REGEDIT and go to the desktop. You can press the F5 key on your keyboard to refesh it. Now the Internet Explorer icon should appear.
