Vista: Exit Apps and Shut Down Easier Using Keyboard Shortcuts
Posted on Nov 26, 2007 under Windows Vista Tips |What usually happens when you have a bunch of applications open and you try to shut down your computer? If you’re lucky, you won’t get the “program is not responding” message. So what you usually do is go through everything in your task bar and shut them down 1 by one. I’ve recently discovered though that with a few keyboard strokes, shutting down your computer can be easier.
Instead of clicking away at the applications, just use the ALT+F4 option with each application. Keep doing so until everything is closed.
When you are on nothing but the Desktop and you press ALT+F4, it will bring up the option to Shut Down Windows.
Now you can press R, S or L.
R = Restart
S = Shut Down
L = Logoff
You may alternatively choose to not close all of the windows individually before shutting down. Another option would be to simply press the Windows Key + D, then ALT+F4, then R, S or L.
