1. Boot your computer with the Windows Vista Upgrade DVD and start the Setup program.
2. When prompted to enter your product key, leave it blank and click Next to continue the setup.
3. When prompted, select the edition of Vista that you purchased and continue with setup.
4. After Windows Vista has been installed. Now you will need to install Windows Vista again. Run the Setup from the DVD while booted into Windows Vista.
5. When prompted, enter your product key this time.
6. Choose Custom (advanced) as the type of upgrade when prompted.
7. When the installation is complete, you can activate and use Windows Vista just as though you have purchased a full version of it.
