I've been trying to dump the latest version of Quicktime for days and nights so I could install a prior version hoping it might actually work. This suggestion helped on XP. The uninstall never finished right until I deleted all quicktime directories in all user and the active user folders. But even though the uninstaller ran to completion the prior version refused to install. In the registry I found an Apple update entry with version info which I renamed. Even so I could not install a prior version until I hit this suggestion. Thanks. ANd the prior version (7.2) actually works.
