Set the Capslock, Numlock or Scroll Lock to be enabled or disabled at startup.
1. Go to Start and type Regedit. (Click RUN then type REGEDIT in XP)
2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Keyboard
3. Open InitialKeyboardIndicators. Set the value to one of the following numbers
0 - All Keys off
1 - Caps Lock on
2 - Num Lock on
3 - Caps Lock and Num Lock on
4 - Scroll Lock on
5 - Caps Lock and Scroll Lock on
6 - Num Lock and Scroll Lock on
7 - Caps Lock, Num Lock, and Scroll Lock on

When you go to Add/Remove programs and try to remove a program, you don’t get the prompt:
Are you sure you want to uninstall program name
and you wish to bring it back.
1. Click Start, type REGEDIT and press ENTER
2. Click the plus sign next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER
then Software
then Microsoft
then Windows
then CurrentVersion
then Explorer
then DontShowMeThisDialogAgain
3. Delete the value {948e51fb-0a48-44f0-86ac-33c36def540c}
4. Restart Windows.

Enable the ability to find text on a web page without having to use CTRL+F.
I am constantly using CTRL+F or EDIT–>FIND IN THIS PAGE to find text in a web page. This handy setting eliminates the extra step. Now I can simply start typing and it will start finding the text I type.
1. Type about:config in the address bar and press ENTER.
2. Locate and double-click the entry for
accessibility.typeaheadfind
3. Set it to true to enable this feature.

Set how Firefox handles links to files that open in external programs.

Browser.link.open_external
3. Set it to one of the following:
1 - Open links from external programs within the current Firefox window.
2 - Open links from external programs in new windows.
3 - Open links from external programs in new tabs in an existing window.

Change the logo or image displayed at bootup in Windows Vista.
Currently, this will only work with the 32-bit version of Windows Vista.
1. Use an image editor such as Paint.NET or Photoshop to create or modify 2 images. One image must be in 800×600 resolution and another in 1024×768 resolution.
2. Download and install the Windows Vista Boot Logo Generator.
3. Run the software and click BROWSE FOR IMAGE to select the 800×600 and 1024×768 images.
4. Click File and select Save Boot Screen File as and save your the file.
5. Replace the winload.exe.mui file in C:\Windows\System32\en-us with the one the Boot Logo Generator created. You might want to make a backup of the old copy of this file first.
6. Click on the START and type in MSCONFIG in the start search box
7. Click on the BOOT tab.
8. Check No GUI Boot, then click OK.

Enable the classic menus such as File, Edit and View in Windows Vista.
Note: These steps apply only to the default folder view for the Windows Vista operating system. Enabling classic menus will not affect the default view for most Windows Vista applications.
- From the Vista Start menu, select Control Panel.
- On the menu on the left, click Classic View.
- Double-click Folder Options.
- Select the View tab and check the option Always show menus.
- Click OK.

Enable or disable the glass effects in Windows Vista.
1. Click on the start button and key in regedit and hit Enter.
2. Click the plus sign next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER
then Software
then Microsoft
then Windows
then DWM
3. Set Composition to 1 and CompositionPolicy to 2 to enable glass effects.
Set Composition to 0 and CompositionPolicy to 1 to disable glass effects.
4. From a command prompt type net stop uxsms. Then type net start uxsms also at command

Speed up Internet Explorer with this registry hack. It will increase the maximum connections per server.
1. Click START–>RUN and type REGEDIT. Click OK.
2. Click the plus sign next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER
then SOFTWARE
then Microsoft
then Windows
then CurrentVersion
then Internet Settings
Double click on the value MaxConnectionsPerServer and change it to a value of 10
Do the same thing for the value MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server. Give it a value of 10 as well.
Internet Explorer will now be faster because it can have up to 16 open connections per server.

Enable or disable the ability for Windows to clear recent docs on logoff.
1. Click START–>RUN and type REGEDIT. Click OK.
2. Click the plus sign next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER
then SOFTWARE
then Microsoft
then Windows
then CurrentVersion
then Policies
then Explorer
3. Double-click on ClearRecentDocsOnExit if it exists.
If it doesn’t, right-click on ADVANCED and Select NEW–>DWORD VALUE and name it ClearRecentDocsOnExit
4. Set this value to 1 to enable the Windows to clear docs when logging off.
Set this value to 0 to disable the Windows to clear docs when logging off.

Remove the branding that some ISP’s like AOL add to the title bar in Internet Explorer.
1. Close out of Internet Explorer.
2. Click START–>RUN
3. Type RUNDLL32.EXE IEdkcs32.dll,Clear
This should clear out the branding the next time you run Internet Explorer

If applications are not responding during the Windows shut down process, it will prompt you to “End Task” instead of completing the shut down process.
You will need to play with the AutoEndTasks value in the registry.
1. Click START–>RUN and type REGEDIT. Click OK.
2. Click the plus sign next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER
then Control Panel
then Desktop
3. Double-Click the AutoEndTasks value.
4. Set it to 1 to automatically end tasks at shut down or restart.
Set it to 0 to disable automatically ending tasks at shut down or restart.
